Booze is pretty pricey over here and I can no longer take my day trips to france so I thought I would dabble in making some of my own.

Anyone had any success with this?

I see you can also make Vodka etc too.

I consider myself a semi pro at this. Getting into wine now but Beer is without doubt my speciality!

My advice to the beginner is to start with the kits. But don't be tight you get what you pay for and I wouldn't bother spend less than £14 to make 5 gallons.

personally I'm beyond all that now and have two casks (One 9 gallon firkin and one 11 gallon) and three beer engines (the hand pumps you see in pubs for real ale). I now make beer only from the raw ingredients, Malt and Hops. I've loads of different malts (pale malt is the base of all beers as this is what produces the alcohol, all others are roasted to different degrees to add colour and flavour). Buy in bulk and beer suddenly becomes ridiculosly cheap it's offensive!

what?
