I need to buy my very first double bed - have had a look in the Argus and Index books and i can get one with a matress for £150. Now, i know your all going to say it will be a crap matress for that price...but.....

How crap is crap? I dont have a lot of money so A, will i be able to sleep on it quite comfortably or would i be better off with the floor or B, can you recommend somewhere that sells cheap comfy beds!!!

Thanks

Not Luton! Thank God
I bought a cheapie bed with a cheapie mattress and then saved up for a better mattress. The cheap mattress is ok for a while but it does get crap after a while.

One other suggestion. Purchase or at least borrow a power screwdriver. I did mine with a normal one and was still screwing (guffaw) at 1 in the morning.

My mattress is only being held together by the stubborn understains and crusty patches. But each stain and crust has its own special memory and story behind it, so I'm loathe to get rid of it. Not that I think there'd be any buyers.

Dandyman

In London village.
Warren Evans will hand make you a 4' 6'' x 6' 3'' double in 3 days and supply with a mattress for £310.

Would strongly recommend the Sussex Bed Centre. It's on the seafront in Portslade about 300 yards west of the junction of Boundary Road. Me and Daisy bought our bed there, and it is by far our best purchase together - and better than any posh hotel bed I have slept on.

I totally agree with the earlier post about spending that bit extra on a good quality mattress. It makes for a wise investment.

I was once advised to buy the best bed and mattress you can afford. We spent a grand on our last bed, and it was the best advice we ever had. It's not that we've got lots of money, it's just that you spend a quarter of your life sleeping, so it's important to get quality kip.

Also, take advice on the firmness on the mattress - don't just go for a specific type because of your own preconceptions. In fact, this is a good reason to buy a bed off an independent retailer, rather one of those shit shops you see in retail parks consisting of salesmen who are either spotty school leavers who know sod all about the product they're trying to sell, or tired, rude, demotivated blokes in shabby suits who can't be arsed to give you the service you need.

I can second that, ,Mrs Rambo and I purchased a bed from them a couple of months ago, they did us a good deal as we bought, mattress, bed and bedside cabinets. Top quality service, top price, what more can you want?

....and you can cross the road and go for a drink in my local, the Kings Head, straight after your purchase.
