CRAZY couple Pat and Joe Posey have “raised” a Cabbage Patch doll as their only son for 19 years.
They treat the 1ft doll, christened Kevin, as a human.
He goes everywhere with them, they talk to him — and he “replies” through Joe putting on his voice.
Ginger-haired Kevin has his own 1,000 sq ft playroom at the couple’s home, a red doll-sized Chevrolet Corvette car, a pet dog, a full wardrobe and a £2,000 savings fund for when he goes to college.
Joe and Pat love him so much they prefer him to their REAL child, an adult daughter named Vicky.
The proud parents told how Kevin came into their life in 1985 at the height of the Cabbage Patch Kids craze, when millions of the dolls were sold with individual “adoption” papers.
Pat said: “With every kid that you adopt, you promise to love them and be a good parent and take care of this child. And that’s what we did with Kevin.” She described the boy as “easy-going, quiet and well-behaved”. Joe revealed that Kevin’s favourite hobby is fishing
Father and son go on frequent trips to a pond near their home in Maryland, America.
And Joe said: “He goes there on a nice day and he and I will sit down and he’ll fish.”
Pretending to be Kevin, he squealed: “Look what I’ve caught!”
Then, reverting to his normal voice, he added: “He doesn’t keep the fish — I put them back.”
The couple admit friends and neighbours think they are potty — especially when they see Joe and Kevin chatting at the shops.
Joe said: “Probably everybody has one special kid who they bond with. Kevin is very special.”
Pat and Joe will be featured on a new TV show called Totally Obsessed, to be shown by satellite channel VH1 later this year.
Daughter Vicky confessed she is jealous of her little brother.
She said: “I didn’t appreciate this kid coming along and taking my stuff. He’s got a dog — I never had a dog — and goes water ski-ing.
“I’ve wished a little bit of harm on Kevin. But I wonder if you stuck needles in him, would he really feel it?”
