...is it OK to buy stuff at the Goldstone site? It's just that I need to buy a dishwasher from Comet.

No. Although I have started driving past it again. I can't see the day when they get my business. Have a look at John Lewis on-line. The prices are similar and you get a longer warranty.

I'd say it is OK. And the funny things is - without Bill Archer we'd never have got Falmer.

Don't get me wrong, he's still an evil piece of shite who was never interested in anything but his own wallet and ego, but if we'd stayed at the Goldstone?

Every year we'd have lavished time and money on feasibility studies, transport reports, political lobbying, plans, assessments of Sheepcote or Falmer or Waterhall or Shoreham etc etc. And every time we put in an application, the repsonse would have been "But you've already got a ground. The Goldstone."

And so the place would have got steadily more decrepit (assuming that was possible) and we'd have mouldered away as Div 3 team (at best) with nothing but vague hope of finding an elusive new stadium to sustain us.

We could only have got Falmer (with all the pain that's entailed) by being homeless. So Archer's arrogance, stupidity and greed have helped us win the day.

Get down the Goldstone Retail Park is you so wish. (Though my tip is buy a washing machine online - they all look the same anyway).

Not for me, I'm waiting until Falmer is Open for Business before I set foot back on the Goldstone...even then i'd have to be in desperate need of something from those shops.

The thing is, if Archer had not been only interested in asset stripping the Albion, selling the ground then fuclking off, one could presume that he would have lavished some of his millions on us, upgraded the stdium, bought us a few titles. Hey ho, we could be where Blackburn are now (The Premiership, not Lancashire). Don't laugh, he had the money to do it. Sadly, though, he was never interested in that, only in lining his own pockets.

I'm not even sure that was his reasoning. The man is among the top 20 richest men in the country. I'm not sure he needed the few million he made enough to justify picking a fight with 6 or 7000 angry Sussex people. He should've just walked away if he was only in it for the money.

You should never even think about buying from there. Archer is to$$pot who deserves to die a horrible death and IMHO he made a shed load out selling the Goldstone for £9m (if memory serves me right) then somehow Chartwell making £25m for it 12 months later!!!! Brown envelopes and all that. Buy on-line from Comet if you have to.

yeah why not, we've got permission for a new ground and it was an absolute shitehole in the end. We'd have had just as much trouble getting permission to do any meaningful revamping there so we're well out of it anyway now. As far as I'm aware Archer et al gain nothing from any of the outlets there any more, so why not shop there.

I swore never to shop there and have only visited once to look at some furniture but now no longer feel that bothered. Time to move on.

Personal choice of course but people who still don't drive past really should reconsider now..imo

But he wasn't nearly as rich then as he is now. 5 or 10 mill back then would have been a big deal to him. I think he just hung on afterwards because he is a stubborn c***.

I stayed away from there until the Albion came back to Brighton and I've shopped there ever since, A trip there allways brings back happy memories of the Goldstone days and i've often sat in Burger King remembering all the great stars I saw play there. But as others have said many times " each to they're own "
