I have got fed up with these rumours about a press conference at the club.

I have sent a text message to someone at the club and the answer is

'Not that I know of'

No-not a sad twat trying to spead a rumour.

Also, the day's not over yet is it?

According to Sky Sports News (on the scrolling text along the bottom of the screen) Reddung have no plans to announce their new manager until next week-but they are hopeful of making the appointment by tomorrow. What the hell kind of statement is that?

With SC still in Nobby Hortonesque talks with DK as we speak (also confirmed by SSN) it sounds likely that the PC may be delayed until talks have concluded?

A number of things are certain though: SC has been to Reading about the job-maybe twice and the club (BHA) initially denied that. He and DK are in talks right now. Both clubs are denying anything has been decided.

Sounds pretty ominous to me

It wasn't merely a rumour to wind everybody up-be sure of that and I sincerely hope it turns out to be a wildfire rumour.

Brighton have confirmed that manager Steve Coppell has held talks with Reading about their managerial vacancy.

The Royals are seeking a new boss after Alan Pardew resigned to take over at West Ham later this month, leaving Kevin Dillon in temporary charge.

Coppell has steered Brighton to second place in the Division Two table and Seagulls chairman Dick Knight hopes to keep him at Withdean.

A statement on Brighton's official website read: "We can confirm that Steve Coppell yesterday had talks with Reading Football Club regarding the vacant manager's position at the Madejski Stadium.

"However, Albion chairman Dick Knight is today doing everything within his power to persuade Coppell that his future lies with the Seagulls."

Former Tottenham boss Glenn Hoddle has been touted as a possible replacement for Pardew but his agent Dennis Roach said: "I have not been involved in any discussions with Reading."

Royals chief executive Nigel Howe added that the club still aim to announce their new manager this week, but said: "It will certainly not be today."
