Nicotine Withdrawal - Help

I have adopted the Digweed approach (see above) - and I am on my sixth week now - even managed to survive a day out at Cardiff.

It is tough - however, the choice of gum available now is far more attractive.

My wife has given up too - both 20 a dayers - she has not used any supplements but she is woman and I am merely a week man (as I get constantly reminded).

Saving a fortune......and it will last.

I have not had a cigarette and this is the 5th day but I cannot carry on. I feel like death and cannot cope. I feel like I have a bad dose of Flu and extreme fatigue.

I have ready over a year 20% of Heroin addicts give up but only 5-10% of nicotine addicts.

Anyone been through this to let me know when its gets better as its better to be addicted than feel like this.

gareth until the 12 jan 2003 i smoked up to 20 ciggies a day for as long as i could remember. i'd tried every trick i could think would work for me, but nothing did. in simple terms i wanted badly to stop but my will power was crap. i'd alwys get to day 6 and sometimes day 10, but never longer.

and then i tried patches. problem solved. only wore them for 2 weeks, no cravings, gradual withdrawal, and bobs your uncle.

can't recommend this technique highly enough. not only do the cravings go, but you know it's a purely chemical thing. try it!

I'm quitting when Prescott says yes.

Seriously though, it is all psychological. The main habit I always had a problem with was buying, once I stopped buying then I had nothing to smoke and it wasn't a problem, similarly when I'm in a non-smoking context I'm not bothered. For instance I'm going on holiday to Canada for a week with family and staying with relatives, I know I won't be smoking then, and that doesn't bother me either.

If you don't want to smoke you won't, if you do you will.

try hypnosis.
i know a few people who've given up successfully with a session.
i tried it for smoking and fear of flying but i went cause the therapist was a babe and it didn't work for me.
gonna give it another go with someone else soon though.
lots of em do guaranteed quit smoking or money back.
what you got to lose ???

Gave up 4 months ago YOU CAN DO IT!!!!! you are almost over the worse.

"Next fag you smoke will cost you £20,000+" is one of the quotes that helped me. Try and read Allen Carr's "how to give up smoking" worked with me and a few friends.

I feel soooooo much better now, loads more energy, teeth look better etc etc

The only problem with Nicotinell is that you are still getting nicotine albeit in smaller doses, so you are not really getting rid of the addiction.

Try chewing ordinary chewing gum as at least it occupies your mouth and the peppermint will make your mouth taste nice and fresh.

I stopped 13 years ago and have no inclination or desire to ever want to smoke again. In fact I don't even think about it now.

I used to be on 20-30 a day.

The anxiety you are feeling at the moment will subside.

Hang on in there.

You can do it.

My dad smoked 40 a day and died of cancer 16 years ago, aged 57. I miss him terribly. Gareth, do you want your loved ones to go through that, see you die young? If not, remember their faces every time you have the craving, they will miss you more than you will ever miss a fag

The minute you stop smoking your lungs start healing themselves.

After 5-10 years without it is as if you have never smoked and you have a great chance of living longer.

Great post El Pres.
