Kirtley and Lewry were the only two born in Sussex.

I'm not quite sure how Tucker and Taylor could be described as home-grown. Neither was born, brought up or educated in Sussex.

I used to sit next to Tucker's dad at work, I remember him leaving to go and watch the young Robin play for his prep school...in Surrey.

CMJ lives in Sussex and has done for years.
RMJ played much of his youth cricket for Horsham before being taken on by the County.
So, pretty much a product of Sussex cricket, I would say.

Carl Hopkinson is a Sussex lad in the squad too. I played in the same junior side as him when he couldn't even hit the ball of the square!

Carl Hopkinson didn't play in the championship.

God, I feel I'm being really picky today...:)

Not Luton! Thank God
Tucker ripped my off stump out once when he was playing for Horsham against me. He was pretty good then as well.

The Sussex website says that Prior was educated at Brighton College.

It's interesting that there were only two Sussex-born players in the squad last year.

OK Gwylan if we're acting the pedant today then this is what you said. Just 'Squad' not championship squad!!

Matt Prior was born in South Africa, but was brought up in Sussex and through the junior age groups.

Fair comment. But I thought the "championship" part was implied.

I didn't say that Prior wasn't home-grown, I accept that he was educated in Sussex.

The 1981 squad a lot more players educated or brought-up in Sussex: Barclay, Mendis, Parker, Phillipson and, to a certain extent, Greig. These complement the two who were born in Sussex.
