I can imagine Gus getting a fair wedge to spend on new players for next season WHEN we get to the championship. But i wonder just how much he will get and how that will compare to the budget of other clubs??

What is the point of speculating on next season when nobody knows what the budget is for this season.

Pure unsubstantiated guesswork but my guess would be something in the order of three times what he had this year based on additional income available so maybe £3m+ plus income from transfers out but remember that if Murray stays (for example) his signing-on fee would have to come from it and salaries across the board will be higher than this year.

Whatever it is we will be pretty competitive at a guess with sides who have been in the Championship for a while (the Palace's and Doncasters etc) but a long long long way adrift of everyone who has had payouts from the Prem over the last three years = a lower mid table budget maybe but we have momentum on our side as well as a top end manager :)

The Championship.
We will have to see what sort of funds Bloom will give Poyet but he will back him 100% and im pretty sure he will give Poyet the amount he needs if he wants a player.

Sorry for asking a reasonable question which people can have a discussion about. Whats the difference between this and all the threads about new players? Jeezz no pleasing some people.

With possible players we all have a view as to what is needed; with a budget do we know or have any idea of:

1. What each player receives now
2. What would they expect to receive in The Championship
3. What do other clubs pay in that division.
4. Has TB said we must be self financing immediately we get into the Amex.
5. Is anybody else on the board helping to finance either players or transfers.

Too many unknowns to have a reasonable discussion , in my view but that is not to stop those that either are in the know or think they are, discussing it.

But how can we suggest what players we can get knowing what connections Gus has abroad. We also know that no one in the championship spends silly money ie £10mill +. And we will be most likely competing in the higher half in terms of budget IMO so to be fair you could say anything from £500,000 to £5million, when there are countless players iin the world to suggest. Any way isnt that what a forum is here for?

Look if you didn't like the thread why post on it and make you self look like a grumpy old man to everyone (as shown above in marcgorrys post).

Sorry for the long winded essay but some people on this site give the impression others are not allowed to speak if they dont have thousands of posts and its starting to get on my nerves.

RANT OVER!

One thing that is for sure is that a player who a club valued at 1 million this season will suddenly be valued at 2 million next season when they know you have deeper pockets.

Rest assured Gus will have what he wants to spend on who he wants to spend it on, and we will be top six next season. Only a fool shows his hand so everyone knows what they are up against. Tony Bloom is no fool and im glad we now do business the way we do it. All this speculatuion about what budget we will or wont have is just plan bullshit........end of thread!!!

Next season is the time that we should become self sufficient & our budget should support that. How many teams have moved into new stadiums & over spent and are now playing to half empty stadiums. Coventry,m,boro,Cardiff,mk,dons(always been half empty).

Sorry Rev. Sorry BG. You don't have to be ITK to speculate nor even pretend to be. It's fun. It's harmless. It's free.
Pointless perhaps but fun, harmless and free nonetheless and surely that is what NSC is pretty much about?

That is true the problem comes with 'insider' information as being a stone cold certainty.

Don't agree. We have scrapped by for a considerable time and you forget we don't have a massive debt to service like other clubs have had. The budget, TB willing, should be aimed at a promotion/play off push next year although I am certain the management won't be throwing stupid money at it. The club have to build on the momentum gained this season, especially as they will be guaranteed crowds of 18K + by the way season ticket sales are going. If we scrape by and avoid relegation then how many of the new season ticket holders won't renew? The club have probably never been in a better position to be geared up for a tilt at the premiership (getting into it that is, not winning it!). Only then should we be seeking to become self sufficient.

Whilst not knowing or suggesting actual figures I would expect the budget to be such that allows Gus to have us top half on the fringe of the play offs next season as Drew says to keep the momentum going. Gus has said we must learn to walk before we run so do not expect to be pushing for promotion next season but the season after will be a different story.

Don't you remember what Tony Bloom said about club finances when he took over as chairman?
1) I will finance the Falmer stadium build
2) I will continue to finance the ongoing losses associated with the club playing at Withdean
3) The club must and will be self-financing when it moves to the Falmer stadium

Indeed. So a season of solidity (with the potential of a bit of Gus magic if we can hold on to him) beckons. If we can do two or three years in the Championship, we'll be in a position to push on. If TB gets excited by the potential, he may modify his thinking though ;)
