In order to assist motorcyclists in identifying potentially dangerous
drivers, it is now compulsory for anyone with a lower than average driving ability, who may exhibit poor eyesight and/or lack of forward/rearward observation and overtaking ability, to display a warning flag.

This flag comprises a red cross on a white background, attached to the top of at least one door of their vehicle. For drivers of exceptionally low ability, who may not even realise how bad they are behind the wheel, additional flags are required.

You haven't mentioned the new law concerning taxi drivers.
It seems that now, they must never stop their car in areas designated for vehicles. It is now compulsary for them to park on either double yellow lines, zebra crossings, in front of driveways or in the middle of the road.
Transport secretary Alistair Darling says this law is necessary to encourage people to leave the car at home, however many taxi drivers are said to be appalled by this law stating that it is a major inconvenience to other road users and find the fact that they are holding up traffic quite upsetting.

Like the arsehole who stopped at a zebra crossing so I overtook on the inside, only to be knocked off by bike by his passenger opening the door.

She was very apologetic but the driver was to blame: he shouldn't have stopped in the middle of the road, there was no signal to say that he wasn't just stopping for zebra and he should have warned his passenger that I was passing.

Bloody cabbies.

Gwylan,

I have a great deal of sympathy for bikers and the fact that people do not 'think bike' as they say, but in response to something you said

'so I overtook on the inside' which is against the law of the road for Bikes as well as cars except in emergency situations.

'there was no signal to say that he wasn't just stopping for zebra and he should have warned his passenger that I was passing'

If he was stopped at a Zebra crossing then you must assume he was stopped for somebody crossing, so you stop as well.

He also didn't see you as you were overtaking on his inside.

And lastly HE'S A FECKIN TAXI DRIVER !!!! Never assume the sensible.

Be safe mate, but it annoys me as a car driver that bikes do tend to break the basic rules of the road and then expect car drivers to be more careful. Unlike a lot of Cab drivers who appear to not understand the rules of the road.

It's not against the laws of the road for bikes to overtake on the inside. In fact, it's the opposite. The Highway Code says that cycles should stay as close to the inside lane as possible, unless they're turning.

I do stop at zebra crossings but I don't stop way back, this was about 10m away from the actual crossing and I thought there was a queue of traffic.

Yeah, I forgot the taxi driver part though. :dunce:
