New FIFA rankings

Having just seen the new FIFA rankings (after Euro 2004), here is how they stand:

1. (1) Brazil 835 points
2. (2) France 813
3. (3) Spain 792
4. (11) Czech Republic 762
5. (5) Netherlands 748
6. (4) Mexico 743
7. (9) United States 735
8. (13) England 733
9. (10) Italy 729
10. (5) Turkey 723

The number in brackets is the standing in June (presumably before the competition).

How the hell are the United States in there?!?! Am I missing something? :lolol:

And Holland at no.5 - they didn't even qualify for the last world cup.
What have Spain done to be no.3 ?
These rankings are total bollox.

How are France 2nd?!?!?!? They didn't score a single goal in the last World cup and lost to Greece this year! Hardly the 2nd best team in the world?

FIFA ranking really are a complete load of crap! Not sure what the point of them is?

I reckon they should scrap the European cup and replace all the qualifiers and friendlies with a league!

i think USA and Mexico get high up the rankings as they play such footballing giants as Trinidad & Tobago, St Lucia, Bermuda etc.

I sort of understand that France has done a world cup and a european in the last few years. I reckon you dont have point knocked off so once your up there you stay for a while. But Spain? what the fcuk have they done for 10 years?

There's a full explanation of the ranking formula on the FIFA website.

I can't be arsed to explain it all, but basically it covers performances from the last 8 years with recent ones gaining a higher weighting.

They pick the country's best seven results from each year ignoring the rest. Weightings are given for friendlies, qualifiers and tournaments, home or away, goals scored and conceded, and the strength of the opposition's region. (UEFA and the SAmerica confederations are strongest)

All the results go into a big sausage machine and complete bollocks come out the other end.
