Stadium Update Column: Legal Agreements
Posted on: Fri 27 Jun 2008
By Martin Perry, Albion Chief Executive

THE LEGAL AGREEMENTS with the various project partners - the council, the universities, Falmer High School, City College, transport partners and many others - are progressing and we're close to completing on some of these. Certainly they will be finalised by the time we move on site in December.

The funding package is also creating a lot of interest with major tier-one banks. The community stadium project is unique and the business case is very strong, making the stadium project an attractive proposition for lending banks - even during this credit-crunch period. We expect to announce a preferred funder on in the latter part of this year, and certainly before we move on site.

A lot going on and the project team are working very hard to get us on site by the end of the year. I will be back next week with a further update - including giving more information about the exciting education developments linked to the stadium development.

Not quite as gripping as The Diary of Anne Frank, but readable.

I thought the bulk of that entry was a press release from a few months ago? ???

Very good book that

Very good book that

Bought it after visiting her house in Amsterdam which I thought was incredibly moving, but to be honest the book kind of bored me to tears. By the end, her incessant whining got to me so much that I practically screaming at the pages: "SHE'S BEHIND THE f***ing WARDROBE, SHE'S BEHIND THE f***ing WARDROBE"

Stadium Update Column: Week One

Posted on: Fri 27 Jun 2008

By Martin Perry, Albion Chief Executive

WELCOME TO MY first weekly update column, I will be writing exclusively on seagulls.co.uk to keep supporters abreast of the week-to-week progress we are making with the community stadium project.

First, some background. Those of you with your finger on the pulse will already be aware that there are four main areas of activity that the club's stadium project team are working on in the period leading up to a start on site. Namely: completing the construction tendering process, completing the planning process, ensuring all the legal agreements are in place; and putting the funding package together.

Since the Town Hall meeting we have moved a long way forward in all four areas - but one of the comments I'm sure we have all heard is: "I'll believe it when I see the diggers and bulldozers on site." The good news is we are on course to be on site by the end of the year - but before that happens there is still a lot of work to do in the next few months.

A major task has been bringing the design development forward to a point where we can commence the tendering process. In the last fortnight we completed the tender documents and sent them to the three contractors who we have shortlisted to bid for the work. The bids are due back in August, and we're expecting to appoint a preferred contractor by beginning of September.

WE WILL ALSO BE submitting two main planning applications to Brighton & Hove City Council in the next few weeks. One is what I have called the housekeeping application, which brings the application up to date (that also includes an application to reduce the amount of lorry movements and the environmental impact by putting the chalk from Village Way South on the field next to the site).

The second application is for the stunning glass atrium building, linked to the stadium via the glass walkway. This building and one side of the stadium will be used by City College, who will be running a whole variety of courses in the stadium and the new building - and Albion supporters will be able to see the work going on in the College every time they come to a match.

Both applications will go into the council in July - as you would expect we will be asking fans to write in support - but we'll keep you posted via seagulls.co.uk and the match programme.

There are two other minor applications - one to widen Stanmer Park Road, the other for replacement car parking at Brighton University - The Stanmer Park one has been submitted and is due to go to committee in July, and we expect all four to be approved by the council by November of this year.

He wrote this paragraph especially for you ...
