Cardiff's loan signing of Craig Bellamy has given them a massive shirt sale boost of nearly £500,000. Within three hours the club shop sold 3,000 'Bellamy 39' replica shirts before they ran out of 'Ys' and '9s' - so fans bought shirts with 'Bellam 3'.

Suitably embarrassed woman holding that shirt... not exactly what you would want your mum to return from the shops with.

I know that City are paying the vast majority of his wages, but for a Club that has been in the high court twice over unpaid VAT, and still owes other clubs money for transfers, this stinks IMO.

Certainly the Motherwell chairman's not best pleased...

(from The Independent yesterday)

Motherwell are considering issuing a winding-up order against Cardiff City to recoup a £175,000 debt they claim they are owed. Motherwell allege that Cardiff failed to pay £100,000 due in January for the transfer of right-back Paul Quinn and that a further £75,000 summer payment has also not been forthcoming. The SPL club issued a writ against Cardiff at Hamilton Sheriff Court on Friday and have stated that City did not attend or submit a defence. Motherwell are now taking legal advice.

John Boyle, Motherwell's chairman, said: "We've been put off, fobbed off and messed around since January.

"How cynical can it be that a club can be signing a raft of high-profile, expensive players when they owe a small club like us?

"It is quite simply a disgrace. It is utterly cynical, disingenuous in the extreme. We have no alternative but to take legal action and we will pursue it vigorously.

"We will consider issuing a winding-up order or send bailiffs to their ground on a home match and collecting our cash."
