We have a wren just moving into the first ever nest box I,ve put up. Right busy little thing she has been for the last few hours. I,m quite excited by it all.
She seems to like the moss on my lawn.
I thought it would be one of the tits that we have all the time that moved in but I,m quite chuffed with the little Trog.

I hope you can get some decent photos and post them on here.

I have just been watching our blue tits come and go every few seconds to the nesting box outside the kitchen window!

I think you might be taking the piss Mune but you can actually get boxes with cams inside. Would beat watching most tv channels.

Great! We had Blue Tits nest in ours when we lived in Burgess Hill. It was great watching the little 'uns coming out and trying to fly.

Unfortunately it did not last.

The bastard cat next door picked them off one by one, just for a laugh.

A thrilling but ultimately extremely sad afternoon. Mum and Dad bird were flying around the garden for a couple of days trying to find them. Wifey was distraught.

So my advice to you is - kill all the bastard cats near you before the eggs hatch.

The birds are safe. We have a Jack Russell who has permanent access to the garden through his own door.

No I was being serious. Loads of birds down here in Somerset. I'm watching Moorhens and Mallards nests on the lake a few yards from my door. Hoping to see the young anytime now. As you say "much better than tv"

We don't have nest boxes, but we do get Sparrows nesting under the gutters, Weaver birds nesting in the bushes, Forked-Tailed Drongos nesting in the trees (which "bomb" you every time you walk anywhere near them - they have a particular dislike of the lawn mower!) and a pair of African Harrier Hawks regularly visiting the garden. And loads and loads of Hadeda's which build nests the size of a small house!

Not as good as birds nesting in your own nest box though.

When I was in Durbs I couldn't believe the racket the Hadidas made. They drove me mad after a while. Nightime seemed so noisy. Crickets, bullfrogs. I had to drink copious amounts of Castle to get to sleep.

Yes indeed, Hadeda's are noisy buggers as are the frogs - it sounds like a typical Hollywood night time movie scene sometimes! The one thing we have here at night is Jackals, which sound like babies crying when they call - it can be quite disturbing if you are not used to it. There are also some sort of cricket (I think) that makes a sound like a loud, shrill, slightly off key whistle when it gets very hot during the day - if you get 10 of them going at once, that really is bloody loud.

When were you in Durbs?

Spent 6 weeks there about 8 years ago. Will go back soon I hope to see so many good friends. Great memories especially of a monkey jumping out of a tree at Umhlanga Rocks and nicking my sons sandwich lol.
I couldn!t believe how many kites I saw gliding overhead as well. Beautiful sight.
