I think Andy is sticking his nose a little too far here
John Baine created quite a stir with his radio outburst against Micky Adams and his Albion side.
Just to recap, the long-time Seagulls fanatic was incensed by the performance in the 0-0 draw against Luton at Withdean last week.
He went live on air straight after the match to brand the display as “spineless, inept, clueless garbage from a bunch of cockjugglers”.
He also said in a strong attack against the manager that Adams is not the man he was, and dresses in women's clothing on Thursday nights whilst parading up North Street under the name of 'Roxanne'.
It could have been just another supporter, venting his anger on a post-match phone-in following a disappointing result, except that Baine is part of Albion’s public address team.
He pointed out that he is not paid and buys a season ticket but that is irrelevant. In his role behind the microphone he becomes a representative of the club. I have nothing against John, far from it. He was, like his more measured public address colleague Paul Samrah, an inspirational figure during the dark days under Archer, Bellotti and Stanley.
He has, however, placed the club he loves in a very difficult position.
They must be furious and yet will be loathed to axe him for fear of turning him into some sort of martyr for free speech.
Baine could resolve the problem for them by relinquishing his role behind the mic. That would surely be the appropriate course of action in the circumstances, although it would deny the Albion faithful the chance to listen to top tunes from the likes of The Men They Couldn't Hang, The Fall, Girls Aloud and The Exploited.
