I was having this conversation earlier with a colleague. They're not exactly blessed on top tier talent...

I actually thought they'd go out and get some of the old new Labour guard back and find them some safe seats before the election but that never really materialised. Probably too much of a threat to Keir, easier for him to look like the most competent person around the cabinet table (relatively speaking!) without them.

Streeting the current fav, Burnham will want it but is disadvantaged by not sitting in the house of Westminster.
