I am a postie and this morning at 5-30 Baker and his shadow visited our office like he does every year to wish us a merry xmas(dont know why ).I slowly saw him shake hands with everyone in my row(though they all think he is a wanker) awaiting him to reach me,when he did i let him have it!He said "how are you?" i said"well would be much better if you stopped killing local football clubs and stopped spending my council tax on fighting something we all want.He said "you support Falmer then?" i said "of course i do and so does most of Lewes if you did youre job properly then you would know this!" i then when on to point out that he was as popular as a fart in a small room around Lewes and that he never supports Lewes fc in anything. He then says he sponsors a game each year but couldnt tell me which one he is doing this year.He then went onto say how he has asked the Albion what thier plan b is and i told him why should there be a plan b when plan A is so bloody good!
Head of LDC then started pipping in about how they have to look after everyone not just footie fans to which i said "no you just look after the few rich people that keep you in office not us average bods" i then asked him where he lived and it was in one of the richest parts of Lewes!
In fairness Baker did stop and try to reason with me and didnt storm off when questioned he just came across as clueless, gormless and out of touch with his constituients. My mate who goes to every Lewes game may be the next Labour candidate at the election in Lewes he is very pro Falmer and if we push this i think it will give Norman plenty to think about.

thats good ribbing mate

Top work, Cliff.

Presumably the LDC representative was Ann de Vecchi, Leader of the Council - a woman who really does need to get out more and understand the strength of feeling.

When the Council debated the commitment to spend yet more money on opposing the Stadium, all she had to say was that "We owe it to ourselves and to the people of Falmer".

No, Ms de Vecchi - what you owe, you owe to ALL of the people in Lewes district.

Nice one Cliff, but i'm sure you're going to visit our wonderful state of the art reed bed after going to pay your extortionate poll tax bill.

She should take a short stroll from her Southover Street home to watch the next match at the Dripping Pan.
de Vecchi is there with Archer, Stanley, Bellotti and Baker. Any chance of catching her with her fingers in the till?

I think you are banging your head against a brick wall going at him direct?

If you were to ask him where Norman Baker thinks Albion should play?
Then he if he says it is not his job to decide, then you are in a position to tirade him. I expect it amounts to the same thing.

Or you could ask him exactly why he opposes Falmer?

I expect it is is because of the AONBs. There are too many people in Brighton, Lewes, Adur, Worthing, the whole area and not enough jobs to go around.

They have got to build on the AONBs on the outskirts of town. There is not enough room otherwise The brownfield and port areas in town have got to be used for jobs. All the local politicians know they cannot go on buildings houses for Londoners without providing jobs for people.

Even the AONB planning guidelines say you can build on an AONB if it improves the rural economy. Falmer is full of DINKYs (as well as NIMBYs) and is not even a rural economy any more (if it ever was?).

All these arguments apply to Sheepcote as well. But that is public open space with rotten transport connections and far inferior to Falmer.

f*** got a fact wrong i think as it wasnt a lady with Norman(now that would be a story:safeway )it was a bloke with a beard whom i am led to believe was on the council or maybe the mayor!
I do know that feelings in Lewes are running very high amongst everyone(even my mother-in -law says why are the council wasting her money) and that Baker is as i said to his face as popular as a fart in a small room.Ithink he knew that when on my life whwen the boss announced him there was an almighty boo and a few expletives.

Baker comes across as a funny chap. Can't remember who, but someone on here got to speak to him in Falmer one morning when he was doing his rounds on the "battle bus" or something.

I remember reading that post - like this one - and thinking, well at least he takes the trouble to listen, and his level of ignorance on the subject will surely make him go back and look into it properly. When he does he'll realise that his opposition is futile and a waste of tax payers money.

Unfortunately this doesn't appear to have been the case at all, as he still seems ignorant of the issues and the feeling, with absolutely no concept of it being a waste of everyone's time and money continuing to oppose it.

I think you have nailed the issue Lewes Cliff, that will finally get through to him, and that is if he has to stand against a pro-Falmer candidate. I'm inclined to say that it shouldn't be someone with political affliations, it should be someone standing purely on the Falmer issue, whilst making the point of "not wasting anymore taxpayers money on opposing this."

Now all we need to find is someone intelligent, distinguished, and in full knowledge of all the facts to the extent that they could destroy all other candidates at any public debate. For my money there is just one name .... stand up ... the new candidate for Lewes .....

LORD B !!!!!
