howdi,

whenever i open a new word document, the cursor starts right at the top of the page, ignoring the default margin settings.

to get round this and start the text in the correct position, i have to open header and footer and then press close on the h&f toolbar. very annoying.

i think it is opening a header by default, but can't find the setting to disable it.

frankly i've had enough, can anybody give any advice.

frustrated, manchester

Are you sure it hasn't simply removed the margins? (hover the cursor over the very top of the page, right on the edge of it, and it will change to a double arrow in a square)

Or possibly your default page size needs to be reset?

Which version of word is it?

Click on 'File' on toolbar, select 'Page set-up' from menu, click on 'Layout' option, and it will let you set your headers and footers to whatever specification you want.

Or it might be the view setting. Click on 'View' and select 'print layout'.

its word 2003 ... seems pretty old for a compnay of the size i work at!

anyway - i have no ruler on the side of the document, only on the top, my margin settings are ok.

how do i get this ruler back - i think it might have soemthing to do with that.
