As it was my birthday yesterday, Mrs Glover was forced to come aong to her annual match yesterday.

She started off badly by not standing up when the Albion came onto the pitch at the start and then added to the faux pass by sitting down when we scored the first goal and complaing that she did not see the goal. Upon pointing out that most people will stand up when Albion are bearing down on goal she stating that she was bored and the game was not very good.

However the change in the second half was quite remarkable. She stood up when the Albion got the second goal and was giving large verbals to Newell when he impeded play. She even started to slag the ref of and almost joined in the chanting of Albion.

She also stated the Albion's most fanciable player was Carpenter and said that Knight was rubbish. By the end on the way home she stated that she wanted to go to the the Saturday games in future and is looking forward to the game at Plymouth !.

My wife is obsessed with the view that we never get "proper" wins. She dismisses any victory where:

- we score a penalty
- one of our goals is an og
- they get a man sent-off.

That really does rule out quite a few over the last 12 months.

And every game this season, we've played against 10 men for the last 3 games!

Gritty - what would she make of a game in which we conceded an own goal and a penalty, and had a man sent off, but still won? The mind boggles.

Anything like that she just dismisses it as "not a proper game". However, she propbably would be impressed with all that happening AGAINST us and we still win.

Can you think of a game where all this happened?

Nope - but I can think of plenty of games where things have gone against us to even up the 'improper' wins! Pretty sure all this stuff evens itself out in the end (unless you're Man Utd of course).

My missus loves coming to games with me. She doesn't like football on the telly but likes the live atmosphere. We mainly go to away games though as it's hard to get tickets for Withdean.

I'm slowly converting her from Millwall to the Albion, nearly there.

She loves watching Sussex though, has really got into cricket.

I know, but as soon as I start with the "But it was a penalty because we were ABOUT to score, when he was fouled. And the ..."

She just starts to glaze over, and it's written all over her face "Not a PROPER win though."

My wife is American hasn't hasn't got a clue about 'soccer'. Still, I reckon that the next time we visit Sussex she'll be up for a game. She, and my step kids, are facinated by the kind of chants we have asa against the wholse 'God Bless America' stuff they have at sporting fixtures here.
