MP calls for video replays

MP Gerry Steinberg, has tabled a Commons motion backing the use of video replays in football.
Steinberg's action has arisen after Sunderland had a controversial last-minute goal awarded against them in the play-off defeat by Crystal Palace.

The motion called for: "...playback facilities so that incorrect decisions can be rectified."

It continued: "...thereby preventing one man running and determining a match based on incorrect decisions."

it will turn into American 'football' ie total bollocks

mistakes are made, people cheat, bla bla bla . . .its been going on for years, hasnt seem to have had much of a negative affect.

cant say I approve of blatant cheating though . . .especially when it means we loose, I mean Gordon Smith should have scored, if Gary Bailey had been playing proper Gentlemans rules he wouldnt of fallen over in front of him, he'd have calmly stepped aside allowing for a free shot on goal :lolol:

He's entered it as an EDM !! Get this.

EDM 1216

STANDARDS OF REFEREEING 18.05.04
Mr Gerry Steinberg

1 signature
That this House is appalled that one incompetent referee can deprive a football team of success as happened at the Stadium of Light in the Sunderland versus Crystal Palace Division One play offs; believes that the standard of English refereeing is appalling as seen every week in football grounds and on television where inconsistent and wrong decisions are made by incompetent first class referees; and further calls upon the Football Association to introduce instant playback facilities so that incorrect decisions can be rectified thereby preventing one man running and determining a match based on incorrect decisions with the resulting financial consequences and disappointment of thousands of cheated fans.

How long before Andy King is lobbying his MP if (god forbid) Swindon fail to progress ? Perhaps he can complain about the "disgraceful" widths of goalposts and crossbars.

what decision was incorrect.

the decision to give the goal was correct.
the referee didn't see a foul before, so he was correct in not giving Sunderland a free kick

what wasincompetent was the Sunderland' players pathetic efforts at scoring from 12 yards

I find it frightening that a democratically elected MP has wasted their time with crap like this. Its comes to something when a Member of Parliament feels sufficiently moved and compelled to produce an EDM basically whining about the refereeing decisions in a football match.

At least the Falmer EDM is about something that has a tangible impact on the lives of the constituents concerned (positive for the majority, supposedly negative for the minority). Whats the next EDM from this bloke going to be about ? Shifting the Eastenders Omnibus from Sunday afternoon to a later, more accessible time, to encourage us all to go out for the day ?

Some MP's clearly have too much time on their hands. (And before any smart-arse levels that accusation at yours truley, I'M not picking up my salary from the frigging taxpayer).

Too late, looks like Andy King has got onto his MP;

EDM 1220

That this house is disgusted at Swindon Town's defeat in the play-off semi finals first leg when they played really well and hit the bar twice and EVERYTHING; believes that the victory by Brighton & Hove Albion made Andy King and his players look like a right bunch of spanners after they had sworn that they would beat the aforementioned team; that Tommy Mooney was pushed in the back a bit and fell over and that having a shot hit the crossbar DOES count as a shot on target because saying otherwise is really stupid; further calls upon the Football Association to overturn the result and award a two goal victory to Swindon Town because the supporters of Swindon Town were really upset at having lost to a team that hails from a town with a high percentage of shirt lifters and furthermore were made the victims of a large amount of abuse along the lines of "does your sister know your here?" and "1-0 to the Nancy Boys"; furthermore calls for Brighton & Hove Albion to forfeit the second leg to avoid any further distress to the good people of Swindon.

Crabtree, try disgruntled-northern-twat@gov.co.uk

:lolol:

this is what I was gonna write, but according to his website they only take note of e-mails from people in his constituency and delete all others! (but the still dont give an addy), anyway:

Hi,

Whilst you are obviously angry at the Referee for making the mistake be thankful that a team like yours (presuming you support Sunderland) have a ground of their own to play in, it therefore strikes me as odd as to why you have not signed EDM 889 - Brighton & Hove Albion's bid for a Stadium at Falmer.
If you are so into fairness in football then please sign the above EDM showing your support as this is of much more importance at this time. Especially if Brighton & Hove Albion are lucky enough to win the Play-offs you will see first hand that Sunderland have to come to a tiny temporary ground with an athletics track and basic facilities, compared to the Premiership ground and facilities at the Stadium Of Light.
