lost in london

I got a Penalty Notice from the Met Police on Saturday morning at 1am for having a piss on a side street next to a crappy parking lot, apparently to the distress of passers by. There was no-one on the same street as me apart from 4 plain clothed coppers in a renault espace. An £80 fine, thank you very much!
I know what I did was dirty, but what was the alternative? Pay £10 to go into a club to use their toilets? Not that they would have let me in seeing as it was pretty late. No restaurants or pubs were open and the chances of finding a public toilet was zero. I found the quietest, most out of the way place I could to do what had to be done.
I don't mind being punished for doing this, but only if there is a reasonable alternative. Why punish people if the facilities for complying with the law aren't there?
In the centre of London apparently they have portable urinals that they put up on Friday and Saturday nights which sound like a great idea. Why can't they be in all the main parts of town? (I was in Upper Street near Angel, hardly a quiet residential area).
Anyone else had one of these and has anyone bothered appealing it?
