Pretty obvious why TV companies pick games involving the best-supported clubs at the beginning of the season - they want to (re)attract subscribers at scale.
Don't think 'vaguely interesting to the neutral fan' (ie Brighton v Luton) really cuts it, especially in holiday season.

Mate has tickets for me and him for the Luton game - in the fecking Tunnel Club.
I'll be in Paris with the kids.
He also blagged 1901s for the Chelsea Potter game.
I was in Amsterdam with the kids.
I have decided I will stop taking the kids on holiday. Instead I'll get my mate to get the two of us tickets across Europe to see the Albion.
