Barbecue summer, warmer than average winter?

Will they dare to trot out their meaningless drivel again?

You understand that predictions over a significant amount of time are not usually right?

Back in the day, I used to work at Arundel Lido. We had a week-by-week forecast for the entire summer, which we got in May. It was correct every single week. How can weather forcasting have got less accurate in that time?

The met office have programmed their computer to comply with government climate change propaganda. That is why their predictions bear no resemblance to the real world.

The weather at present is being affected by an El Niño in the Pacific Ocean, which is causing havoc with the 'normal' weather trends which are used as the base of the weather models.

I think one problem is that the forecasts try and be too accurate over such a large area. Bit different to the localised weather forecasts at F1 Grand Prix's where they have doppler sensors so they can predict rain accurately to the minute!

oh cynical... but i think theres an underlying truth, the predictions must be so overburdened with different climate models that they cant really hope to be consistant. the global warming mob will trot out that the unpredictablility is presicly becuse the climate is being changed, but weather has always been difficult to predict beyond a few days. these long term forecasts are a new thing (so i thought, seeing strings anecdote), but in this media driven world you're nothing if you dont trot out press releases and pontifications.

we have now had two very cold winters by our southern standards. i read a report that the planet is now going to cool over the next twenty years, yet soon as we get a hot day in march it be be global warming, i think i,ll finish of this bottle of bells and forget about it:tantrum:

Love the Standard tonight - every day for next five days it says there is a possibility of snow, glad that narrows it down then :lolol:

We live in a part of the world where every wind has its own weather

Back in the early noughties, we had wet warm south westerly dominating prevailing winds, but only recently its switched round a little

Like I said, every wind has its own weather

West - wet wind
South - wet
east - cold snow
north -wet cold windy

There's actually probably a grain of truth in that. If they'd said that the summer would be mild and wet and the winter would be arctic they'd have found it much harder to bring in all these extra environmental measures designed to 'save the planet'.

On that subject I received, completely unsolicited, a box of energy-saving light bulbs from Npower. I already have energy-saving bulbs (plus spares) in all the light sockets that will take them as I was given twelve in another energy-saving initiative a few years ago (can't remember who from). The other sockets either have dimmers or 'tasteful' shades that the new ugly oblong bulbs won't fit. I did bit of digging on the web and found that Npower had sent out these 'free' bulbs as part of their 'committment' to saving the planet. Well I say their committment, apparently they had to do 'something' or get fined and sending out the bulbs was the cheapest alternative for them - although it will obviously increase their costs which will ultimately mean they'll increase OUR costs. I've a good mind just to chuck the toxic things in the bin thus roundly defeating the whole point of the exercise.

Whatever the truth of climate change (and I remember when Global Cooling due to atmospheric and sea pollution was all the rage) the whole 'environmental' thing is a f***ing shambles.

What a load of old cock.

2009 is expected to be the fifth warmest year on record and the decade 2000- 2009 was the warmest decade since records began. This is no propaganda.

And this is not a particularly cold winter. While the UK and north-west Europe have been having cold spells, other parts of the northern hemisphere are experiencing warmer than average winters. See here
Cold weather 'doesn't undermine global warming science' - Telegraph
This is winter after all - I remember when I was at uni, it was so cold that I had to go to bed fully clothed and that the water in the bog was frozen - this is pretty mild compared to that experience.

A couple of cold days in our small part of the globe should be seen as part of the bigger picture. It would be like extrapolating our defeat of Man City last season as evidence that League One is better than the Premiership.

Part of the global warming effect is extreme weather conditions.

Exactly how gullible are you?
