Ebbsfleet United striker Chris McPhee has turned down the offer of a new contract at the club.

The 25-year-old, who scored the winner against his former club Torquay in the FA Trophy Final at Wembley, is moving to the West Country for family reasons.

Fleet boss Liam Daish told the club website: "I'd been very patient and we did all we could to keep Chris.

"I offered him the best contract at the club but he indicated it wasn't about the money."

Daish added: "Chris told me he was moving to the West Country. He's getting married in the summer and his wife is from the area.

"He said if nothing came up football-wise he'd take time out and follow another path.

"I was a little surprised he didn't want to kick on but everyone is different."

McPhee moved to Stonebridge Road last summer after refusing a new contract at Torquay.

He made 55 appearances for the club, scoring 12 goals.

...rumoured to be looking for a move back to the West Country, apparently Torquay are favourites to sign him but my money would be on Exeter.

...I saw him play for Ebbsfleet towards the end of last season and he didn't look too bad, however...the best player on the pitch in that game by a country mile was our old favourite Paul McCarthy, he could still do a job!

Gatting is FIVE TIMES the player McPhee was, in his time here. I've not seen him play since, so wouldn't comment on his current abilities, but at the time he was UTTER UTTER gash. As a mate said to me, "That McPhee - his second touch is always a tackle"

Sorry. He's not a particularly WITTY mate.

The comment had a mark of TRUTH though.

McPhee was not a very talented chap, its true.
At least he put the effort in though.

read that in the non league paper - hes HATED by torquay fans apparently, and they seemed to be hinting at a move to exeter

not sure how gatting is worse than him - mcphee has had a pretty good season in a league in which gatting was apparently gash

Strange that McPhee's wife-to-be wasn't seduced by the idea of being an Ebbsfleet WAG, and didn't want to up sticks straight away from her Devon idyll. Some people are so selfish.

In what respect? Seems as how both players are/were total and UTTER gash, they only have their pace to seperate them. Which makes McPhee about three or four times the player Gatting never will be. At least mcPhee managed to keep up with the pace often enough to get up-ended in the area for Leon Knight (he's alright  ) to score most of his goals from the penalty spot. Hard to imagine Gatting huffing and puffing his way into the box often enough to ever make a difference. Harsh but fair, methinks
