One of the scariest events I’ve ever been ti watching sport. Get early here for Brighton. Heysel was my thought as thousands couldn’t get into ground. Thousands outside at kick off with police stopping everyone

Given they have been playing football at the stadium every fortnight for 86 years, seemingly without issue like this , I wonder why this happened tonight? Why was getting into the ground different to every fortnight?

Mark Roberts (head of football policing in England) did a long interview on The Price of Football podcast last week. Interesting listen, but he basically said that the French police were ****s when it came to policing football where English fans were concerned.
