Marrakesh

Hi,

I am off to Marrakesh in a couple of weeks. I've read all the guide books and so on and know about the souks etc.

However, I wondered if anyone can suggest anything worth doing or visiting that isn't obvious or listed.

NB. I'm going with the wife!!

Get a local bus to Essaouira and ride horses through the mangroves and then along the beach at sunset (passing Jimi's Castle in the Sand along the way) - magical :0

Shopping is great in Marrakech, although the popularity with the French makes in a not-particularly-cheap. I like the leather slippers in particular.

Food is great.

Not really answered your question but hey ho!

We went on a day off roading in the mountains in a range rover. That was intense. The restaurants in Marrakesh old town ( they're underground and covered in blue tiles) are brilliant.

You WILL eat a lot of cous cous and a LOT of lamb.

Bloody lovely grub. Helps if you have some French as most speak that. Check out the snake charmers in the souk ( its where they filmed Indiana jones ROTLA) the place is amazing fella.

Day trip to the mountains areas and a day trip to Casablanca on train were two trips i did. The train trip you can organise easily yourself

Train was great as just taxi to station and buy tickets there. think it was £20 first class return 2 years ago. Was short changed though as not paying attention when paying so care there .Great views as you travel and their first class is like our old Southern first class carriages with 6 seats and the sliding door. At the other end get a taxi to the waterfront !
