[Football] Manchester United transfer policy and thank God for Tony Bloom

Just heard an article on Talksport regarding United's 'scattergun' approach to bringing in new players, which has been by all accounts even less controlled than usual this season. Heard a few journalists and commenters (all fans) who seemed to be stuck in the time-honoured 'but we are Manchester united and should therefore attract all the best players' attitude. This lazy approach made me think again how lucky we are to have a chairman such as Tony Bloom who uses his expertise in stats to our advantage.

I was really staggered to hear one journalist say 'Joel Glazer likes to have a look at statistics and videos to back up the purchase of any player, and this is a problem'. What? This is so diametrically opposed to our approach, and must surely go against all modern thinking in terms of identifying and selecting targets. If the club is so fragmented that someone in the know believes using stats is a problem to justify a transfer, the club must be very divided in its management.

I am certain and yes it's a profound statement, that Tony Bloom's scouting methods are now replicating elsewhere rapidly, I know that there is always an advantage to be found somewhere, but I wonder if it will become slimmer as more clubs adapt and use the more mathematical approach?
