Another Friday special. Is it honestly possible for straight men to have platonic friendships with females or are they always interested in a possible future conquest?

It's certainly difficult to get the sex thing out of the brain!

I'm sure I saw somewhere that most people have shagged their opposite sex "mates".

i have mates that are blokes and they are just mates. I think it's easier for girls to have blokes as just mates who are just mates, rather than for blokes who always seem to be looking for something else as well.

I find it a delicate balance to get the true friendship between a man and woman. Certainly you shouldn't disregard the wife of a friend and be distant, nor should you be harbouring further desires - so she should only be regarded as a friend, right?

There have been many girls I liked as friends, but perhaps they had thoughts of wanting something to 'happen' all the time. It's definitely frustrating to have a female friend you'd like to nail, then hear her telling you about some bloke she met - so that 'friendship' is not fun!

I had a flatmate recently, who had a boyfriend when she moved in, and then dumped him. She was pretty bloody hot and well fit - but I had to over-ride any thoughts of sex, or else I'd be living with the girl after the first date!

Good question, sadly, in the vast majority of cases they are interested in future conquest.

I find that once I have made it clear that I am not interested in swapping juices, some are not prepared to be 'just friends', which is a shame.

Some will soldier on, accept the situation but keep a watchful eye on an opportunity to try and seduce me.

Others carry themselves with more decorum and become true long standing mates. These are the best, 'cause when I do get around to giving them the benefit of my good lovin' it's all the more satisfying.

It is possible, but can sometimes be difficult if you're both single. Under certain circumstances (e.g. either of you had a significant other, or you worked together, or some other shite reason like that) it is easier to have a platonic relationship with someone you're attracted to, so yes, it is possible.
