Seems Sheffield Wednesday have made a £250,000 for Stockport's Beckett. I think he would do a great job for us. How about matching it Mr Knight?

Story:

Sheffield Wednesday boss Chris Turner has confirmed the club have made a cash bid for Stockport striker Luke Beckett.

Sheffield-born Beckett is still under contract at Edgeley Park and Turner revealed Wednesday chairman Dave Allen had put in an offer of £250,000 for the 26-year-old.

"We have offered Stockport £250,000 for Luke Beckett and we are waiting for their answer," said Turner.

"The offer was made by Dave Allen over the weekend, chairman to chairman.

"Beckett is a player who scores goals and we would like to bring him into our squad. He's got two years to run on his contract, but we feel we've made a fair offer in today's market.

"We have been looking at one or two players we're interested in, but our first priority is Luke Beckett and then if nothing materialises we will look elsewhere."

And where is he supposed to get the money from? Maybe this story from the bbc web-site could be interesting too:

"Tottenham have failed in their bid to sign Santos midfielder Diego, according to the player's father.

The English Premiership side had offered £5.6m for the 18-year-old.

But that was rejected by the Brazilian club, who set a deadline for 1200 GMT on Tuesday for an improved bid.

When that passed, Santos considered negotiations closed.

Tottenham had wanted Diego to move immediately while Santos had hoped to keep him until the end of the year so he would be available for the rest of the Campeonato Brasileiro."

Come on Dick. Put your money where you mouth is. Borrow now to get this kid. I'm sure he can do a job for us.
