I see Leftie Ken is hiking the prices a yet again.what a complete farce to screw the public by saying it will cut emissions and help the envoirment.Britain only constitutes to 2% to global warning why the biggest polluters continue to pollute.India,China and the States are the worse offenders by far and who appear to do sod all about it.It's the lefties favorite cover up tax to rake in from the public.THE GREEN TAX.If thats not enough, idiot Ken is widening the boundary zone. This will have a knock on effect on public transport so expect rises in fares.
Did anyone know that James Whale wants to be the next Mayor of London?

One piece of good news is that i hope cheap booze and fags will be passed in the European courts so you are only taxed in the country you buy from and not here as well.Imagine buying 200 fags from Latvia for just £7-9 with a couple of quid P&P:clap2:
What will Gordon Brown do with taxes though as there will be a be shortfall in the treasury?Raise VAT or Income Tax?

I think this is a GOOD thing and I don't by this bollox about why should we start doing something about emissions when China, USA etc etc Blah blah blah..

Something needs to be done, and that doesn't mean we just sit around blaming everyone else !!!!

Doesn't bother me at all - why anyone would want to drive a bloody Vogue Range Rover through the centre of London is beyond me!

and good on Ken for doing something about it - I hope its for the right reasons and not just to line the coffers...

I thought the government are trying to encourage people to use public transport?Rising fares is not the answer.Like i said it's a excuse for another tax.Thats what it all boils down to.

But wouldn't you think about catching the tube if the cost was going to be £28 or whatever it was I saw on the news? I certainly would!

Ah, killing yourself might get cheaper. Stupid is as stupid does, or something.

Might I suggest that the shortfall in taxes could be made up by insisting that those who suffer health issues related to drinking or smoking are required to use the health services of the countries they buy their supplies from? Good luck in some of those eastern European countries.

But clearly the individual cost to the consumer would be lower on public transport, as the increase in cost is shared across passengers. So while public transport costs may increase, they will be nowhere near as much as the increase you'd be facing if you drive into the middle of London every day!

As far as I was aware it was a charge to be levied on cars with an emission of CO2 over a certain limit? Not taxis or buses. I hope delivery vechicles are included though... make a mess of the streets...

Why would fares rise on public transport, if people are forced to use it in the 'car free' zones?

So taxis are not effected then?

The TAX raised on cigarettes far outways the cost of the NHS to patch them up, if other countries get that TAX our NHS won't be able to afford to treat these people.

Which bit? It's pretty difficult to measure exactly how much smoking costs the NHS, so that part is open to debate. While the government would still be able to fund the NHS to pay for the cost of smokers if the tax on it disapears, it would of course have to raise revenue some other way, through another tax, leading to you complaining bitterly about the extra tax being levied. You can't have it all ways Algie.
