In a moment of drunken buffoonery, and displaying some remarkable fuckwitedry, I volunteered to do the London to Brighton bike ride this year.
:shootself

It's now too late to back out, so anyone on here done it before? Good places to stop? Sneaky short cuts? Cheating ways of getting up Ditchling Beacon?

All advice appreciated.

never done it but I'm doing it this year, currently trying to decide whether to do it in Fancy Dress (Spiderman outfit, mate as Superman) or BHA shirt or normal shorts and t-shirt (something punky). Will decorate my helmet (steady) with BHA stickers.

Staying up in Clapham area on the sat for a few beers & Euro matches that evening (obviously wont be getting hammered as its a 7am start time  )
Latvia v Germany at 5pm then Dutch v Czech at 7:45pm - that one should be good!

For a start, Pasty, you're a twat, receiving zero sympathy from me.:shootself

But now that you are doing it, sit on the razor blade which doubles for a saddle, face the front and cycle behind the woman with the slimmest arse and slinkiest pants. 60 miles will pass in no time.

Good luck...

Are you doing it for cheridee?

Let's all do it in the stripe's.:clap2:

Should be fun going through Croyden:eek:

My mate and myself have already decided we will definately be wearing the mighty stripes. We've got a 6am start time so I guess Crabtree will pass us by Croydon and Yoda shortly after that.

I ride a 12mile roundtrip to work & back everyday so I'm fairly fit....but i'm going with a fat bastard so you can get the pints in for me when we get back to Brighton, or Redders can of course :)

I did it a couple of years back, strongly recommend stopping at the refreshment stop at the bottom of ditchling beacon I got about half way up and then pushed the other half much like most of the people doing it really.

Its such a rush when you cycle into brighton having done it and are greeted by applause on madeira drive.

Wouldn't do it again though, I ached for days afterwards.

Good luck to all who are doing it.

you bloody fool Pastie !!!

actually its'll be fun . . ..theres plenty of pubs on the way, and its only 60 odd miles

you could start by doing a bit of training . . . .like the others who stopped by on Sunday, rather than staying at home with a beer smoking a fag ! :lolol:

I thought it was down hill all way - you're heading south right?

Spoken like a true Aussie Tedebear. I like the sound of your race better. Down hill in on an old heavy Shopper bike with the basket stacked with cans of Stella would suit me fine.

I'm a clever clogs I am....replace the stella with strongbow and you've got yourself a race!!

I should add Pasty - don't take any of my advice at all as I obviously have no clue

try going down Ditchlig beacon on a chopper . . . . thats more dangerous than sleeping with Freddie Mercury

Looks like we've got ourself an unofficial summer race. The winner is the first to the bottom of Ditchling Beacon with no alcohol left. Bring it on.
