Coppell is set for job at Reading
By Ken Dyer, Evening Standard

Steve Coppell is expected to be named Reading's new manager in the next 48 hours.

The Brighton manager went to the top of Reading's list when Glenn Hoddle pulled out of the race to succeed West Ham-bound Alan Pardew and negotiations on a financial package are expected to be concluded in the near future.

Brighton, who are top of Division Two, will be awarded about £100,000 in compensation as part of the deal.

48 hours

I need to know now :shootself

As CM implies, "expected" tends to suggest journalistic license. Expected by who? The journalist. Why? Cos otherwise he doesn't have such a good article or headline.

Come on with the club announcements - they're the only things I'll believe.

The Sun at the weekend said he was staying.
The Guardian the day before said he was going.
Basically, journalists make this stuff up. No-one gets sued if they're wrong, and they can claim the credit if they're right.
I suspect the first we'll know is when Reading call a press conference - if that happens any time today or tomorrow morning then I'd say it could only be Coppell cos they couldn't sort anybody else out that fast.

i know a few people in the press and i can tell you they DONT make it up they have libel etc to consider so they would be stupid to do so also its obvious to evryone hes going just question of when also Pla@rse are in trouble they have a shte manager and Sc will always have one eye on that job so even if he wasnt going to Reading he would be off there in the future better from Reading than straight from Albion how would that make thos eof you licking his **** feel?

I know quite a few people in the press too, and when it comes to manager rumours 99 percent of it has no more basis in fact than the speculation on here. It's not hard to guess which managers a club is likely to be interested in, and libel is not an issue..... there's nothing defamatory about saying Brighton, Reading or whoever want you as there next manager.

And on Friday they said Reddung would be unveiling him as their new boss today (Friday).

The "journalist" probably wrote the article and then rang up Reading.

When Reading "refused to comment" he printed the article any way.

Nothing will happen today as Coppell is in Stockport at this Stress Test thingy.

Expect all the official club announcements to be tomorrow morning (although I suppose Reading could always announce today that they will be hosting a PC in the morning :()

Sorry - didn;t mean to imply that he was definately off.

I honestly don't know for certain although i'd currently offer odds of around 10/1 on him staying --- but 10/1 shots do come in occasionally :D

The good old N.O.W said £250k yesterday..Think thats a bit high IMO, but also mentioned that JM offered SC less than he is currently being paid by us...!! When he found out, it was bumped up to £200k a year
None of it looks good does it...

I still think the Albion should piss on their parade by making the expected announcement today.

"We are delighted to announce the departure of Steve Coppell who decided that it is better to desert the club that resurrected his career rather than stay and honour his contract. We would like to wish Steve all the best at reddung-we'd like to but he can f*** off"

f*** Coppell's feelings in all of this-what about ours?
