Gently simmered in the slow cooker..

It really is food of the gods.

I had it last night with mash and broccoli……

What stews and casseroles are you looking forward to this winter ?

Got some nice steak and kidneys from my son in law (he’s a butcher) for next mondays crock pot effort.
That tasty treat will have dumplings in I think.

Pork shoulder slow cooked with stewing veg.
Missus will be making her famous Leczo on numerous occasions hopefully.
Plenty of beef casseroles and maybe a Coq au vin or too ( if I can be arsed)

Love liver and bacon BUT ....

1. Must be calves liver, well worth the extra cost but quite difficult to find, soaked in milk for a couple of hours prior to cooking
2. Bacon must be non smoked streaky, cooked to a crisp
3. Accompanied by caramelised onions/onion gravy and creamy mashed potato with a liberal helping of gruyere cheese mixed into the mash

IMHO.

I like lambs and calves liver I do agree however that calves is the better but hard to find

Pigs liver with lambs heart and pork mince, oatmeal, onion make fantastic Welsh feggots ( had to spell it with an E as with an A it would not allow me to post as ******s)

Liver, bacon and onions was one of my favourite meals I cooked for myself when living alone. Now I am married with 2 kids they all think it's disgusting. They are wrong and I am missing out.

Oh, FFS! Another carnivore thread!

I do loads of these - chili (with left over roast beef), pork, simple chicken joints.

But the family favourite is a greek veggie dish called a Briam.

Basically carrots, spuds, onions, courgettes, fresh toms - whatever you have to hand. Cut into large pieces, add some fresh herbs, season and let it do its thing in the slow cooker. Amazingly everything holds together and you end up with a stunning veg stew. I like it with bread, Mrs CBH prefers rice. I add chili sauce, but after cooking.

Traditionally, like gigot of lamb, it was cooked in the residual heat of bread ovens and eaten in the vening after work.

I love Liver and onions but also

Steak and Kidney pudding (Aubergine and Portobello Steamed pudding for the vegans)
Cassoulet (again, leave out the duck, use vegan sausages)
Beef bourguignon
Coq au Vin
Slow cooked Lamb shoulder
Steak and Carrots in Ale

Best part of winter

It's a rare treat. If it's on a menu (very occasionally) I will choose it. Lamb liver preferred (calves liver sounds delicious).

At home - it's more occasional as you can't freeze liver (is that actually right?) which makes it less convenient.

And served with mash is all that is needed.

When I was younger, it didn't matter how many times I insisted that I absolutely despise liver, my dad would always insist more insistently that I did in fact like it and would dish it up just for me to not eat it and get moaned at because unbeknown to me, I apparently did like it.
The second worst thing I've put in my mouth. First being something that definitely smelled of fish and definitely didn't taste like chicken.
