Didn't go on Saturday, but reading a Millwall board, it seems his sole contribution was to wave William Buckley through to set up Barnes for the opening goal, and then nearly give a penalty away in the second half for pointlessly clattering into Barnes.

I think this is why he's at Millwall then - hopelessly inconsistent.

A lot of people completely judged him on the performance at the Amex and then decided he would be a great signing, rather than listening to the Millwall fans say that he only puts in one or two performances like that a season

Correct. Although his inconsistency wasn't a secret, but there were rumours that Gus was interested, and if that was ever the case then the assumption would have been Gus was able to coach the inconsistency out of him.

He was absolutely immense that evening at the Amex though.

This. Don't get me wrong he played a blinder at the Amex and my first thought was "Gus, sign him up" but after the Millwall fans verdict of him and his performance on the weekend, I'm quite happy we didn't. Hammond and Crofts any day of the week.

He was their best player according to the excellent Football League paper.

Yes he had a good game at the AMEX, but wasn't this around the time GP was saying he was looking for a box-to-box midfielder/big unit in the centre of the park/more height and presence in the side, so people put two and two together, and came up with, as it transpired, 497...
