The Argus reports that Lewes DC are considering forking out £35,000 more to fight Falmer today.

Lewes FC chairman is for the stadium and is pleeing the council for them to withdraw.

It also says that not all constituants (sp) are aginst it and would like money spent in another way.

Not quite sure what to think of this, it's seems pretty meaningless to me. Can anyone shed any light?

I hope they withdraw from the fight... would be a major coup for the pro-Falmer lobby (us!!), surely?...

Yeah but they are thinking about it. I'd have thought they would have done it automatically if they believe in what they've been saying at the Inquiry thus far?

hard to say without the hard facts of what they are exactly doing (anyone?), maybe they are fighting against and are putting an extra £35k into the funding or deciding just to carry on with what they currently have.

OR

Maybe they are deciding whether to fully fight against with £35k or back off completley.

In my view its the former, hoping its the latter of course!

The meeting is a meeting of Lewes District Council's Cabinet and will be held TODAY (8 September) at 2.30pm - at the Cart Lodge, The Barn Centre, St Mary's Church, Newick (a handy location if ever I saw one).

The £35,000 is earmarked for an additional budget for specialist advisors for the second phase of the Falmer public enquiry. The officers' recommendation is to approve this expenditure.

Councillors who are members of the Cabinet are:-

susan.bratchie@lewes.gov.uk
edward.collict@lewes.gov.uk
neil.commin@lewes.gov.uk
ann.devecchi@lewes.gov.uk
shirley.james@lewes.gov.uk
elizabeth.lee@lewes.gov.uk
marina.pepper@lewes.gov.uk
david.rogers@lewes.gov.uk
norman.turner@lewes.gov.uk

e-mail sent to them all:-

I understand that the District Council’s Cabinet is meeting today to discuss, among other matters, the possibility that the Council will earmark a further £35,000 to fight Brighton and Hove Albion’s plans for a community stadium on land near Brighton University.

As a Lewes council tax payer, I wish you to know that I object very strongly to my council spending yet more money to oppose a stadium that is supported by very many residents of the district, including thousands who have signed a petition in favour of it.

Continuing opposition to a stadium near Falmer threatens the future of Brighton and Hove Albion football club and the interests of the very many people in Lewes District who follow the club’s fortunes.

I urge you not to support this additional expenditure.

I too have sent an email to all of them. (probably slightly more ranting than LBs but the same gist)

LB - I guess these e-mails should only be sent by Lewes residents?... please confirm... thank you...

And... thank you and Lammy for making your thoughts known to the council... it's a disgrace that they (Lewes DC) should spend your hard-earned this way IMHO...
