I used to be huge fan of theirs, not listened to much of their more recent stuff but live they always used to be brilliant.

Better than another of Brightons products - Supergrass :nono:

I used to like the Levellers but have not listened to them since I was about 16. My art teacher was going out with one of the Levellers (can't remember his name). She was a honey! Not a badass obviously, going out with a public school art teacher :D

Supergrass are from Oxford.

Indeed, but the lead singer now lives in Brighton doesn't he?

I dont think that makes them from Brighton, that would be like saying Nick Cave is from Hove?

Looking forward to seeing them at a rare brighton appearance at the Spiegeltent in may and then again at their marvellous beautiful days festival in august.

And for those who haven't heard them in a while, the last two albums are great.

Saw them at Sussex Uni in 1987 before they sold out and got a record deal and they were ace.

;)

My daughter's school class are singing a Leveller's song about the city of Brighton ('City By The Sea', or similar) for the Brighton Festival.

Got tickets for that yesterday - havent seen them for a while. I first saw them at the Richmond (now the Pressure point). My mate at schools sister was going out with Jon the fiddle player. Seen them loads of times, I remember gigs at the Zap, then the big step up to the Event, eventually the Brighton Centre, then back down to the Dome and then the concorde. One of the best was a free gig in Stanmer Park - part of some free festival. I have been to a few of the accoustic gigs as well (Sussex arts club plus others) Also seen them in Holland and France a couple of times. One of my best music event was seeing Rage Against The Machine followed by the Levellers on the main stage at Glastonbury. The had to stop the show when toooo many people climbed the tower by the mixing desk and it became unsafe. Another one that ran it close was when they did an anti nazi festival in Brockwell park, the Manics (with the original singer) played before the Levs, a great day.

Great band, great laugh and usually top gigs. Hope to make the beautifal day festival this year - £85 for 3 days rather than the rip off prices of Reading/Leeds and Galstonbury!

Stanmer Park festivals were great although the Levellers one when Shed Seven were on as well wasn't one of their best. Always remember the big tent the year before when it was Northern Uproar followed by The Lightening Seeds followed by Echobelly who were awesome, especially the girl lead singer.

I do remember the Levellers sponsoring the match ball at Withdean once!!
