Well over a thousand pages on the Tory one surely warrants a corresponding Labour one when they will undoubtedly form the next government.

Diane Abbot being barred from standing could be first discussion ?

Nice thread concept but I'm not sure the sidelining of Abbott is a good place to start.

Let us begin. She is being defended now by the Starmer-hating hard left for apologising over her antisemitic comments. She apologised and went on an antisemitism aware course. At the age of 69 and after 40 years as an MP. But before she apologized and went on a course, this was her reaction:

And here we go, the 'newspaper' with the best contacts in the labour party (ho, ho, ho) has delivered its verdict:

And a caller to R5 now says "Starmer is like a labour version of Major but ten times worse"...."Tony Blair... illegal war... waiting in he wings". Crikey. Grey man Starmer supports illegal war by proxy. Some on the hard right and hard left do struggle with a narrative....

I am curious to see what they do when they have difficult decisions to make, although there is a lot of low hanging fruit that can be picked before it gets to that. Improving trade relations with the EU, and taxing private education are two excellent, sensible policies but stuff like that won't fix everything.

It annoys me that they are ruling out tax rises for a start, when it is quite clear something has to be done to pay for the Tory mess where nothing in the public sector works.

They are hardly going to state this during an election campaign. Tax cuts/rises are the one thing that really motivates people to vote for and against a party.

I agree they will have to raise revenue somehow, so this will probably happen at some point though.

Starmer’s calm, undramatic, methodical defenestration of the loony lefties and the useless in his party is a very good reason to vote Labour this time out imo. First time for a long time that I will vote with any sense of enthusiasm at all. Last time out with Johnson vs Corbyn was like choosing between a ST at Palace or Chelsea
And the fact he broke ALL the pledges he made when he became Labour leader doesn't bother you in the slightest? 🤔

'Loony lefties' and 'hard left' already making their way in the lexicon used on this thread and we are still on page 1! Just missing the overuse of the word 'WOKE' to describe ANYTHING vaguely non-twattish and we will have Tory bingo!

Please list them and explain how he broke them.

Please don't include any changes in policy or plan. The ability to CHANGE is the hallmark of strength.

Only a fool comes up with a silly arse plan and sticks with it. Only a knave inherits a silly arse plan from their predecessor (*cough* Rwanda *cough) and sticks with it.

In principle yes, breaking, or u-turning if you prefer, on one or two is the mark of flexibility. But to break, or U-turn, on ALL the pledges he made speaks to something else in my book.

Voting for Sunak or Starmer is like taking your two dogs to the park and having only one poo bag.
Unless you're in their consituencies, you won't be.

It's not just about the leaders, it's about the parties and the Labour Party may have it's problems, but it's not a basketcase. I'll be voting to get my current, conspiracy theory peddling, MP out. I don't agree with everything that Labour, the Greens, or the Lib Dems propose, but I do share a reality with them and that's a start.

Not unless you’re prepared to go 16 rounds with @Harry Wilson's tackle 😉

(Diane Abbott btw lost the whip for denying the existence of antisemitism and equating the Jewish identity with having red hair - objectionable woman who is better being ignored by the Speaker on the back benches as an Independent than ever standing for the Labour Party again)

No one does implosion like the Tory Party.

The only thing I see in meltdown is the Daily Mail. It's a joy to see them flapping like a gull in a foxes mouth.

Yes he's shut them down for now but if he gets the massive majority predicted watch them crawl out of the woodwork same as the loony right did with a massive tory majority.

I feel very uncomfortable with this situation if Dianne Abbott is not allowed to stand in the upcoming election yet we allow hard right Tory defectors into the party
Didn't you get the memo? Abbott bad. Elphicke good.

Yep. Sadly politicians have to have a strategy to deal with the following sorts of questions (below), and being a bit vague or making carefully worded statements are the only ways around the problem. What annoys me is that journalists still try to trick MPs into making a mistake that has nothing to do with the overall intent of the party. Imagine an election on Germany that hinged on the extent to which the socialists and the Nazis were able to communicate their commitment to stop cruelty to animals.

Here are some unfair banana skins

"Can you rule out raising any form of tax at any time under any circumstance if you form a government?"

"Can you guarantee that your policy will put an end to The Boats?"

"Can you promise that you will do all that is necessary to stop the war in Gaza?"

Actually the last one is easy to answer "yes" to. But how would you answer the first two questions? The only honest answers are 'no' and 'no'.

Unfortunately it seems that the electorate are not ready for such honesty. As a consequence it is then a straightforward matter for the hard right (and indeed as we are seeing now with the hard left reaction over Abbott) and hard left to claim 'they are all the same'. The subtext is of course different; the hard right are trying to encourage people to not vote Labour (don't vote for change) whereas the hard left are simply f***ing idiots who still believe in 'no compromise with the electorate'.

Let's imagine the labour person is honest and says 'no' to the first two questions. The take home, that will no doubt be explained by the jubilant interviewer would be 'Labour have no idea whether their policies will have any impact. And they cannot rule out the possibility that their policies will do harm'. All that is factually correct, and the poor electorate will have to work out whether they are being conned by the politicians or mislead by the media. As it was and as it will always be it seems.
