This adds credence to the Owusu rumour, in that Weds are clearly looking to slah their wage bill.

Ipswich Town have signed Finland international striker Shefki Kuqi on a three-month loan from Sheffield Wednesday.
The 26-year-old has scored five times for Chris Turner's Second Division side this season and will go straight into Town's squad for Saturday's clash with Watford provided the necessary paperwork is completed in time.

Manager Joe Royle told the club's official website: "We were interested in signing Shefki in the summer but Wednesday were looking for a big fee for him.

"That took us out of the equation but with Sheffield now looking to relieve their wage bill, they have agreed a loan deal.

"We are delighted to land Shefki. He is a big, powerful striker that will give us some presence in the box."

With Kuqi off their wage bill temporarily, I guess they won't need to get rid of Owusu unless they really are in the shit financially.

They are in trouble financially. They are selling off their training ground to a supermarket to raise money.

I agree with you. Players can play for Coppell but not Turner.
I reckon Turner will last until Christmas and then be out.

It's gotta be a serious worry to Weds fans, as they must keep thinking that they have reached the bottom and then it gets worse. I've certainly read a few times that "this summer sees the end of the expensive contracts" yet they still end up having to ship out more players.

I still think Owusu will go if they can sell him. Not because he's bad (I think he's scored 7 in 17) but because they can't afford to turn down any offers, and because they could do with his wage off the bill.

Turner looks like he's making a mess of it to me, and Knight and Owusu make it look like he can't get the best out of his strikers.

Except that Sheffield Council have refused permission...............

Another million pound loss, with no lifeline in sight

Sheffield Wednesday have revealed that they are set to lose over £1million this season. This bombshell comes after the Sheffield Council pushed the owls further towards oblivion by rejecting the training ground proposal.

The recent news that Sheffield Wednesday are set to lose over £1million this season has reawakened fears about the owls finances. Dave Allen revealed on Radio Sheffield's 'Football Heaven' that The Sheffield Councils refusal at the Training Ground sale to ASDA could have very serious consequences for the club.

Allen expressed his disappointment and obvious anger at the decision that could cause, in a worst case scenario, the end of Sheffield Wednesday Football Club. For Sheffield Wednesday the training ground was the only real hope, the only worthy asset that the owls had for relieving the debt. Allen said that it "was Sheffield Wednesday's lifeline... and an important one at that".

Most owls' fans, along with Allen are understandable bewildered at the refusal. Yet I can't say it came as a surprise, for long before the decision was made there was rumours that the council were being advised to refuse the application. It seems that Sheffield Council doesn't seem to understand the importance of the said refusal and its dire implications to Sheffield Wednesday's future as a football league club. If it does understand, then why refuse it?

The official reasons for refusing the ASDA Supermarket revolve around 3 main problems. Firstly are the traffic problems. This would be indeed something ASDA themselves would have to look at, but surely the correct management could come up with a solution. The second problem suggests that there would be a loss of playing fields. In a sense this is true, but how many people have ever been down to Middlewood Road for a kick about. It isn't allowed by Sheffield Wednesday as it is deemed Private Property. The third reason suggests that custom would be taken away from Hillsborough Centre, but doesn't Morrison's do that to an extent anyway.

The biggest problem and the greatest loss of business would be to Morrison's, and maybe the business around it that relies on the supermarket for its trade, e.g., the Catalogue Shop, or even Hillsborough McDonalds (which just happens to take a high percentage of its money on OWLS home games).

Why would Sheffield Council so flippantly not seem to have a care in the world about our once mighty football team? Why, when they slammed the Supertram through Hillsborough Centre did they not consider the shop owners then? The tram clearly had a devastating effect on local businesses, especially after the inclusion of tram-gates.

Does Sheffield Council want just one Sheffield football club?

I didn't realise it had been turned down.

I do feel for the Owls fans. Most of them are really decent and just cannot understand how their club has been allowed to slide into this situation.

Merging the Owls and Blades??

Just ask yourself how you would feel if asked to merge with Palace.

It will never happen.

A merge could NEVER happen, but I wouldn't rule out a ground share.

Ned reckons that could never happen either. Too much bad blood between them.

Neither site has sufficient parking or space and can only just cope with 23 games in a season.

Oh don't feel sorry for them. They're a bunch of arrogant fucktards who delude themselves into thinking they've got some Godgiven right to be a Premiership club. Shifty Cooker and his mates can f*** off!

xx

PS I do love Ned though

Kuqi to Ipswich could also be good news for those of us who took a punt on Leon for top scorer in Div. 2. If I remember correctly, Kuqi was the favourite to achieve this.

Got to be a huge worry for Wednesday fans, and a big boost to us.

So if they are chucking players away on loan why dont we get shot of Henderson and get Owusu on loan paying half or two thirds of his wages?
