Too close for comfort
looked terrific for you guys today.

Now I've only seen your lot in the two games against the Palace - but these three - on today's showing - ought to have you higher up the table. Add in Fletcher and your poor league position is a mystery.

Have they just responded to the 'big occasion' or are there deeper problems with the squad?

We CAN NOT hold a lead or kill a game. That's all there is to it really.

Those three are all class players.

That and Leon scored, which has been rare over the last two seasons!! Lets hope he keeps it up!

They are simply our best three players.

Well spotted! No, there are not deeper problems in the squad, today was virtually a carbon copy of our game at Elland Road. What there is, is a big transition between styles of play - we stayed up in 04/05 through a defensive system - we are trying to stay up in 05/06 through an attacking system. Fact is, there are bound to be growing pains!

The big question for me, is whether McGhee will keep his nerve and persist with the a system that matches us in attacking ability with three-quarters of the Champ teams we face but does make us vulnerable on the break and, at times, in midfield. Will the fans keep their nerve, I know most will but there are a bunch of jessies who will abandon ship at the first sign of trouble - f*** 'em I say :salute:

I personally think Richard Carpenter is our most influential player and to be competing so well without his vital presence fills me with admiration for our lads!

I'm incredibly proud of the team today, it was about our best home performance of the season, yet we just lost out at the death because Palace have a little bit more experience and class at these wars than us. We had more chances than them, but they were far more clinical.

Any Brighton team that criticises the effort of our players today should f*** OFF and support another team - our lads were magnificent and I know now we are going to give it one HELL of a crack for the rest of this season

We sold Harding ,Cullip and Virgo and Hinch is injured. We managed to chuck an entire good defense in a few months so what do you expect?

The only one of those we REALLY miss is Hinch. Harding got totally done all afternoon yesterday and Virgo didn't play in defence much last season.

Frutos is turning out to be a very special player. Game by game he is getting more influential and hopefully once Chippy gets back we will start firing in midfield.

Hinsh is a fine young player but El Abd won so much ball today - I am gutted for him because he did well, maybe just lacked that bit of anticipation that McShane with his class constantly shows but I think El Abd has a future with us. Put El Abd behind our first-choice midfield and I think he could compete with Hinsh for the shirt

Agreed.

Adam was great today, and in all honesty I think Butters should make way against Cardiff/Derby. El Abd's done nothing wrong and should keep the shirt

i was shocked by el abd - never rated him at all, but today he did very well. i think it just proves though that he is a lot more comftable at centre back than right back, where he has played a number of games and looked awful

I agree.

I think we still very much need Guy's ability in the air, nous and reading of the game - delighted El Abd played well today though, should be a good contest between him and Dodd for RB.
