I think Tarantino films are OK but over-rated. Kill Bill is a big rip off. It was intended to be a single film. But somebody had the idea of splitting it into two volumes so that the punters end up paying double money. What a strange coincednce that vol 2 came out in the cinema at the same time that vol 1 came out on DVD!

Kill Bill obviously is a rip off simply because it's an homage to the various genres Tarantino loves.

Harvey Weinstein at Miramax allowed Tarantino to keep the film at the length it was, only if he split it into two - Tarantino is one of the few people to have this sway over Weinstein, simply because he practically saved Miramax.

Also the DVD release date was probably moved to coincide with the theatrical release date - Theatrical is set first, with the home entertainment division having a contract with theatrical to ensure it isn't released on video and DVD before a full theatrical window.

But I agree, Kill Bill was a disappointment overall. It doesn't have one memorable line of dialogue from the entire film - something you'd expect from Tarantino.

Totally unlike his other films then...

Got a nice wee mini-book thing called 'Tarantino Bites' with Kill Bill 2 out of Virgin today

Even Tarantino admits it's a film that is totally different to his others. His previous films have been influenced by others, but not to the extent of Kill Bill which lifted scenes almost directly, e.g. Shaolin Chamber of Death, Ichi The Killer.

Kill Bill 2 is THE ONE for fans of Tarantino. Got much more in common with Pulp Fiction than it's got in common with Kill Bill 1. Little more conversation, a little less action. If you think Tarantino is all about the screenplay and the soundtrack, then IMHO you'll enjoy 2 more than 1. Has to be said tho that the guy's a sick f***. Under any other circumstances he'd be locked up as Uma Thurman's crayzee stalker. The geek SO much wants to get into Uma's pants. Not that there's anything wrong with that, mind... :p

Yes.

I watched Vol 1 on DVD two days before Vol 2 came out at the cinema. Should have been one film.

Of course, even more cynically, I will end up watching Vol1 , vol2 AND the complete version when it comes out next year.

Personally I preferred the more thoughtful Vol 2, Vol 1 is too much of a homage. But, as a result, I have this week watched Battle Royale (excellent but not long enough) and grabbed Ichi the Killer off eBay. Just because it's a tribute doesn't mean I can't enjoy both Tarantino and the originals.

Strikes me that Tarantino, sick puppy that he is, has got something of a foot fetish. We have had numerous close-ups of Ms Thurmans feet particularly in KB1 and KB2, as well as Pulp Fiction. In From Dusk Till Dawn the guy could hardly keep the camera off Juliette Lewis's feet, and later on probably gave himself a full-on boner by having Salma Hayek pour wine down her leg while her foot is shoved in his mouth.

Weird.
