With 36 counties (I think), it's 1260-1

34. The old 32 plus London and New York.

Theres 36 only if you take the old 32, split Tipperary (as was done for coucil admin reasons) and split Dublin into 4 (again, council admin reasons). And thats not counting the splits in NI, which theres been loads of...

Thanks MYOB. I couldn't remember and I couldn't be arsed to look it up.

In that case, the odds of Kerry And Mayo reaching the final is 992-1.

A good bit less than that, as there are only so many good football counties and Kerry are always up there.

Kerry Mayo also had a run-out in the 1997 final.

Well, yes, but I was assuming that all counties had an equal chance.

Can you imagine how hard maths exams would be if you had take reality into account? :)

When did that happen?

???

70's I thought. All the archaic counties, with the exception of Fermanagh, were split into Administrative Zones, some even crossing old county boundaries.

Fermanagh, oddly enough, is the county they'd be most likely to "give back" first to shut the IRA up. And its been left exactly as it was admin wise when partitioning occured (1899 Local Government Bill, still valid in the Republic).
