If you hate the f***ing yankees clap your hands.

Absolutely delighted to see the red sox take a 3-2 lead in the play off series against the scummy yankees. Anyone see that fight in the 4th game? Some fat yankee base coach taking a swipe at the red sox coach and falling flat on his pie eating arse was probably the highlight.

But when will the once mighty blue jays return to the big stage, I ask you?

As a Jays fan since their very first game in 1977 against Chicago in the snow at Prohibition Stadium-it pains me to say that I don't think they'll ever win it again. No money, salaries paid in US dollars, revenue generated in CDN, shit attendances lately.....sound familiar?

Quite unwittingly, when I first started watching baseball I picked a team from AL and NL. I chose the Mets, pretty much expecting the hatred of the Yankees to exist, but had no idea when I picked the Red Sox, that there was all the "Curse of The Bambino" stuff.

Yep, Red Sox-Yankees is probably *the* sporting rivallry stateside. It's been that way since Babe Ruth was traded to the wanks in the 1920s I believe.

I hate to disappoint you, but it is only 2-2 in the series now. The Red Sox WON 3-2 yesterday to tie the series.

I hate the Red Sox as well so am hopng for an NL win this year. Cubbies or Marlins, I don't care.

And I think the Blue Jays will be very real contenders soon if they keep this team together. Wells, Delgado, Halliday - in those three they have maybe the best trio in baseball, IMHO. They just need a bit more pitching, and Lopez, Towers, Kerschner all looked to have real potential this year.

Back to bed...

It's almost as intense as the Toronto Argonaut/Hamilton Pussycats/Tigercats rivalry.....

The Mets/Yankees rivalry has yet to mature - a few more Subway Series and we should see it take off nicely. I'd hate the Yankees wherever they were from, they're the bloody Man Utd of baseball - they've even got a reciprocal marketing arrangement with the Red Scum. Bastards.

No I don't, he's a complete toerag, the Scott McG$#@$ of baseball.

As CNN put it when asking if anyone came out with credit after that brawl:

"It certainly couldn't have been Boston pitcher Pedro Martinez, who intentionally came at the Yanks' Karim Garcia with a pitch that was a whisker away from hitting him in the head and perhaps putting him in the hospital, or worse. Martinez is a head-hunter from way back, no matter how much his apologists try to portray him as just a hard-nosed competitor. The beanball was completely in character for him -- he was struggling, and he wanted to remind the Yankees that, at the very least, he still had the power to stick a fastball in their ears. What a prince."

So he's got a competitive edge to him and a bit of a nasty streak, but I'm talking about his pitching. Has there been anyone consistently better over the past 5 years?

Of course I'm biased, I'm a Sox fan, but I think he is absolutely superb.

Pavilionaire will be gutted, a baseball thread and he's on holiday. Would be great to see the Red Sox dump the Yankees, but I've been to Wrigley, even sung that stupid song about the ball park, and would love to see the Cubs do it. Big game tonight against the Marlins, win and they're there.

Yes - Randy Johnson has been the mutts nuts for a decade. I remember him taking apart the Blue Jays batting line up over the 3 or 4 games he started in a series for the Mariners in 1994. And that season, the Blue Jays won their second world series on the back of their batting (John Olerud was batting .400 until the last couple of months!). He's still there, one of the most respected pitchers in the business, despite looking like a red neck paedophile.

That's why I said over the last 5 years. Go back a full 10 and Randy is the man. But you just can't respect a man with a haircut like that.

Is it just me or does Mike Hampton remind you of a paler Jeff Minton?
