Taken from www.ananova.com - "Officials in New York are to honour the late Joey Ramone, by naming a street in his memory. Joey Ramone Place will be officially named at a ceremony on November 30. The street is home to the legendary CBGB club - where the Ramones, Talking Heads, Blondie and Television started off their careers in the mid-70s. The CBGB celebrates its 30th anniversary next month. Owner Hilly Kristal told Rolling Stone: "As far as the city recognising Joey, it's about time. The Ramones meant a lot to this city and to music. They were the original punk rock band. Their longevity supercedes anybody who sold more records, and the consistency and meaning of their name is greater than anybody in the punk rock field. They were not pretentious, just real and simple back to rock and roll-type songs. It's why you still hear them today." Singer Joey Ramone died from cancer in April 2001. Guitarist Dee Dee Ramone died later the same year, leaving guitarist Johnny Ramone and drummer Tommy Ramone as the sole surviving members of the band's original line-up."

Class band. Was lucky to see them at the roundhouse in the 70s with Talking Heads and The Saints. Definitely ranks as one of the best ever gigs I've been to (do people still say gigs?).

Hey, DRF, I was there. Great gig. One of the best I've been to as well.

I remember the Saints lead singer downing a bottle of whisky during the set and still standing up.

I saw the Ramones 3 or 4 times. Alongside The Clash they were the greatest band of that era.
