Thought he looked very promising last night and along with El-Abd was a great positive from the game. Can pass, tackle, defend, attack and has enough pace to play at full back.

Made some great tackles last night and could of been the difference between getting a point or getting nothing.

Thought El-Abd looked good once he'd stopped acting a bit strangely in the first 5-10 mins - catching the ball when it was far from clear that it had gone out, plus attempting forcefully to insert his boot in that bloke's ear - potentially a very, very nasty challenge. It was a sign of utter ineptitude from the ref that he didn't get carded for it.

I think El-Abd's absolutely superb, a really classy young player. We need him out there, not being crazily reckless like that.

Nice to see our youngsters taking their chances. Obviously not in the goal sense!

Joel Lynchs' distirbuition has improved a fraction and he made some good tackles. Another good display.

I was surprised that El-Abd didn't at least get booked. It was unintentional and he hadn't seen the bloke, but he should count himself very lucky!

Hove, f***ing ACTUALLY.
Joel Lynch was SUPERB throughout.

Getting away from his tracking back and tackling, his positional play was excellent, and it was like the kid has been playing in that position for years.

The only thing that ruined it for me was some TWAT behind me in E block shouting to McGhee 'When you selling him then Jocko'

Just about sums WITHERS up really.

Lynch was excellent last night. Strong in the tackle, good in the air, took no chances and clipped some good balls up the line. Not afraid to have a shot either. El Abd was very good to strong enough to hold Ricketts off the ball but does tend to get a bit panicky near the end of games where he cant pass for shit!

The positives I took from last night were all about the youngsters - especially Lynch and El Abd. In fact, although Burnley clearly were crap, and the defence didn't get really tested, the whole back 4 put in a superb effort last night. If we only had a creative midfielder and a decent-ish centre forward, we would be a solid mid-table outfit. If only....

Incidentally, on the strength of lasy night, could Burnley do a Crewe, and end up fighting relegation? Without Akinbiyi they looked clueless.

Fully agree Jim, as for Burnley doing a Crewe... Only time will tell!! They certainly didn't look good enough to be in the position they are in!

I am not convinced the ref had his cards in the first half. There were a couple of dodgy tackles that went unpunished.

very good game from the entire defence

playing against one striker though obviously made the job slighlty easier

Agree, except... some of his crossing and passing was not as good as it could have been... still, I've seen enough of him now to say I am confident that he is our best lb option... way, way better option than Kerry Mayo...

from about 40 yards - and that really sums up the game

He also looks very comfortable with the ball at his feet rather than a hasty pass to the nearest player to get rid of the ball. Good showing and hope for the future.

Lynch needs to come up against some decent players before anyone can say how good he is or might be. Last night was no test whatsoever. Personally I think we should still have signed left back cover.

It doesn't look so urgent now. Eventually perhaps but at this moment a striker or two and a creative midfielder are more important.

Agree, although it does worry me that if Lynch gets injured we get stuck with a MAJOR problem!
