To answer the reply to my post...

In the hypothetical situation of Coppell leaving after the Grimsby game and getting a big bonus then YES I would have been upset.......but at the Board for their incompetence not the manager.

I also ask this: If you were sacked by your employer and suddenly found that he was obliged to pay you £400K (and had the funds to do so), would you be principled enough to turn it down ? Most would`nt and bear in mind Joe Royle is a family man with commitments and was facing the prospect of a long spell of unemployment.

Blame the Board.

How much do they pay their lawyers?

FFS they are highly qualified professionals! They should be able to word contracts without loopholes.

It could have been worded "He is not entitled to the bonus if Manchester City do not start the next season in The Premiership."

Its the fault of the Man City board for not making that £400k bonus watertight, and now its clearly come back to bite them.

But its pretty unscrupulous and grubby for Royle to pursue that Premiership bonus on a technicality, when he actually took them down that season. That sucks.

No-one comes out of this with any credit whatsoever.
