Oh Please nooooooo:nono:

FORMER Fulham boss Jean Tigana is hoping to make a sensational return to management - at Second Division Brighton.

Tigana, who was axed by Fulham in April, has applied for the vacant manager's post at the Withdean Stadium following Steve Coppell's departure to Reading.

The former French star is on a short-list of five alongside Steve Cotterill, Graham Rix, Stuart Gray, Iain Dowie and caretaker-boss Bob Booker.

Brighton chairman Dick Knight said: "I have been inundated with applications, including one from an ex-Premiership manager who has managed in the Champions League within the last five years.

"I am looking for a manager who appreciated good football and has ambitions to nurture our players."

Im sure I heard Knight saying we're after someone with loyalty and ambition......
....... Tigana'll just take all the plaudits for guiding the Albion to the second division title, then, in true "i'll sign for Brighton, they're a good shop window" fashion, piss off for a team more akin to his 'reputed' level of management.

Can we please NOT get any more Billy-Big-Spuds managers, let's get Dowie, and get on with it. Doesn't matter who we pick this year, we'll get promoted. What's important is who can motivate our players and keep us in Div 1 next season. Judging by the profound improvement Chris Coleman has had (ok, it may just be a honeymoon period) on Fulham's team since Tigana's departure, i'm not convinced that Tigana will be any good, apart from his contacts. Added to that, when the chips are down and he's no longer taking the plaudits next year, he'll probably piss off and we'll be in the same position all over again.

I don't see why Tigana would be a bad choice. He's managed at the very highest level and he'll get us playing good footall. We might even see some decent French players signing for us.Can't see it happening though.

Just on Sky

"Another possible candidate is former Chelsea and Watford chief Gianluca Vialli who guided The Blues on their European quest that saw them take on the likes of Lazio and Barcelona, who is also on the lookout for employment."

I think Tigana would be great, but agree I'd be worried about the short-termist nature of the appointment. Then again, they'll all of them f*** off at some point if we haven't got a stadium.

I don't want Tigana!

We need a manager that, as usual, is used to working on a shoe string budget. When did Tigana last have to do that?

We also need a manager who is willing to work with the players we've got. We have ample ability in this squad to win this division and stay up next season.

I really don't think contacts are that important for us at the moment.

What I will say to Dick Knight is that if the managers you interview are not willing to sign a three year contract with no get out clauses then forget them. We'd be better off with Bob Booker.

For me it has to be either Dowie, Cotterill or Booker.

What this club has been crying out for for years (no not a creative midfielder) is STABILITY.

Bit concerned that the original article mentions Tigana on a shortlist of five and then mentions five other names - strikes me as jeopardising the credibility.

I can see merit in the argument that we need someone prone to shouting a lot, who knows the lower divisions, works on a tight budget etc etc.

And maybe it's just to do with him as a player in that great French team of the 1980s. But I still can't help but find the idea of Jean Tigana managing the Albion a very mouthwatering one indeed, if it is a realistic prospect. Maybe slightly irrational but there you go.

Just because he's only ever done stuff at Fulham with al-Fayed's dosh doesn't mean he's no good in slightly tighter circumstances.

Out of that list my order would go...

1. Jean Tigana
2. Ian Dowie
-------------------------
3. Bob Booker
4. Steve Cotterill
5. Stuart Gray
6. Graham Rix

But i personally only want Tigana or Dowie.
