James racknell fractures his skull by falling off his bike

Get well soon!

James Cracknell is said to be in a stable condition after suffering a fractured skull in an accident with a truck in Arizona. The Olympic rowing champion also suffered a gash to the back of his head and bruising to his brain after being thrown off his bicycle by the truck.

His life was saved by his crash helmet, which took the full force of the impact, according to the Daily Telegraph. The accident happened at 5.30am on Tuesday on a quiet strip of road near the city of Winslow. Cracknell was taken to a local hospital before being transferred to Phoenix, Arizona, where his family are at his bedside.

The 38-year-old was in Arizona filming with the Dangerous film company for a Discovery Channel documentary but was not being filmed at the time of the crash.

A statement released by the Discovery Channel said: "At approximately 0530 (PCT), 1330 (GMT) on 20 July, James Cracknell was involved in a road traffic accident while cycling in Winslow, Arizona. James was taken to hospital where is being treated for a head injury. He is conscious and his condition is stable; doctors have said he is making good progress. His wife and family are at his side as he continues to recover."

I guess if you're just going from one extreme event to another (certainly the impression he gives), bad stuff is going to happen.

True, I guess. But this just sounds like he was having a bike ride, and got hit, from behind, by a truck. Could have happened to anyone.

Get well soon.
