Just pay the money back Ivor, deep down your hearts in the right place, but this could end up costing you more than just money.

The last embers of the expenses furore, report in the Argus, and sorry I'm not computer literate enough to post it up here, that according to the authorities Ivor still owes £18,000 and for reasons best known to him won't pay it back.

Does the report say what he was supposed to have claimed for that they're asking him to pay back?

In the frenzied witch-hunt, it was sometimes forgotten that a lot of MPs were just doing what they were advised was possible. The rules might have been bollocks, but they didn't make the rules. Some definitely took the piss, but for those others that didn't think they had done anything wrong, I can see why you wouldn't want to fork out £18,000 without at least having your say.

The problem for Caplin is that, as LR is suggesting, even if he thinks it is unfair, it probably just isn't worth protesting too much. You don't want to be known as one of four (or even the only) ex MP not to pay back the cash as ordered. That will see you branded, and lose you all sorts of future gigs. I'd agree, bite the bullet, and pay it back.

pay back the money ivor, why should you be any different. I doubt the ordinary man in the street would get away for this long with not paying.
