Very nice indeed, but I fear Italian and Spanish women are a bit like those lifejackets they always show you when you get on a plane. Somewhere, there is a little tag which they yank at about the age of 40; immediately inflating to double their initial size. The effect of this is to force out any underlying hair through the pores, particularly in areas where the skin was especially tight, like the top lip.

Bummer because they're gorgeous when younger, so the only option is to go for regular trade-ins. :)

That photo isn't, of course, a random selection of Italian women. They are all supporting the Torre contrada at the Sienese palio.

Which means that THEY ALL LIVE WITHIN TWO HUNDRED YARDS OF EACH OTHER

Now walk around your neighbourhood for ten minutes.

:)

as 10cc say, not in hove
from my experience of the palio there more likely to be tourists than siennese...so they might well be a group of girls from shoreham, unlikely i know., but possible...

Can anyone please explain what the hell you lot are talking about, with regards to why those fit women are all standing together?!!!

Who are they cheering on?

it's a horse race around the itailian city of sienna and those girls are allegedly from shoreham on a package holiday to tuscany and bused in to see the race.

the race itself is rather fantastic but to get a good view you need to be there 5 hours in advance and it lasts about 60 seconds. almost guaranteed to see a serious stack though, and i mean the horses ..

Bad luck?

I'm sure the locals would put it all down to dirty tricks by the scum from Oca.

:)

I'm even more impressed LB by your knowledge of the various feuds between the contradas.

I've been to about a dozen palios over the last 10 years to photograph them and have an article and pictures in the current edition of Outdoor Photography (a photo magazine).

As LB says they are girls from the Torre Contrada, one of of 17 contradas ( or districts ) in the old walled city of Siena in Italy. Twice a year on July 2nd and August 16nth, there is a horse race and ten of these contradas race against each other, as Afters says, in a race lasting about 90 secs( its actually 3 times around the main square). Each of these contradas has an ancient name, colours and constitution. These girls are from the Torre contrada(seen by their purple scarves) and are cheering on their horse and jockey in one of six trial races that take place during the 4 days of palio.

For once it says something positive about Inbreeding.

So how come in the uK we end up with 11 fingered mutants and in Siena they end up with beauties.:p

It comes from having spent fifteen months living in Montalcino, which (as I'm sure you will know) is always represented in the Palio procession.

Remember 1555-1559. The Republic of Siena in Montalcino.

You were with the wrong lot. The Torre contrada girls are gorgeous. Forget those threads with those air-brushed old slappers - those girls look fantastic.
