I'd rather we played them in season 2009-2010.

No it probably won't unfortunately...It's not Southampton FC that is going into Administration, it's their holding company Southampton Leisure Holdings that are.

BBC SPORT | Football | My Club | S | Southampton | Shares in Southampton suspended

The FA are a joke , saying they cannot dock any points because this scenario is not covered by its rules. Haven't they learnt any lessons from what Mr Bates did ? Using loopholes to escape punishment is despicable.

The FA couldn't find their own backside with both hands.

FFS how could they not have this covered in their rules, it's not as if the concept of a Holding Company is ground breaking.

Mark Fry and David Hudson of Begbies Traynor appointed as joint administrators to Southampton Leisure Holdings plc

Mark Fry and David Hudson of recovery and restructuring specialists Begbies Traynor have today been appointed joint administrators to Southampton Leisure Holdings plc ("the Company"), the AIM-listed holding company that owns Southampton Football Club.

Shares in the Company were suspended from trading on 1 April 2009, when the Company announced that it was in negotiations to secure additional financing to ensure that it was able to continue trading; as yet, new financing has not been agreed, and as the Company is insolvent, it has been placed into administration.

The joint administrators are now working with the Directors as they seek to either refinance or find a buyer for the assets of the Company.

Further announcements will be made when it is appropriate to do so.

Mark Fry, Joint Administrator, commented:

"Southampton Football Club has a long history in English football, and could be an extremely attractive investment for the right buyer. We are working hard to preserve the value of the football Club and produce a positive outcome for all stakeholders, and I ask that fans continue show their support for the team for the remainder of the season, as we seek to show the best face possible to potential investors."

oh dear

Well the holding company has now officially gone into Administration

But until the football club itself goes into administration, the League are STILL in the position of not having a clear ruling on this, and are left with a discretionary penalty, which could lead to all the arguments they had with Ken Bates.

Do the FA ever learn? Seemingly not.

Well, that's how we do it then with Falmer.
Brighton and Hove Albion Holdings take the asset of Falmer and all the necessary liabilities.
Then "do a Leicester" with the Holding Company to wash all those nasty liabilities out through administration.
Create a new company to buy the Holding Company out of administration, which all happens without Brighton and Hove Albion Football Club Ltd ever needing to go into administration themselves.

If the League hit us with a discretionary few points then we'll be all Ken Bates about it, asking to see where we have actually contravened any of the specific rules.

Incredible how inept the FA can be with anything that involves control over the actions of the football clubs themselves. Does anyone honestly believe they could EVER control a Salary Cap? Laughable, they are so incompetent it's laughable.

The Holding Company did the deals for the Players, so shirly they own them, or did they transfer ownership to the football club at no charge.

Either way, the football club is clearly a seperate limited company, and therefore THAT is the only company that automatically triggers the points deductions if it goes into administration, and not the Holding Company.

If Southampton ended up in League Two as has been suggested, does one less team go down from League One to League Two?

That could mean only the bottom THREE go down, instead of four (giving us more chance of staying up)

Good point , well spotted, Southampton could save us .:albion2:

Make up for that Sothampton v Spurs 0-0 debacle a fews years back.

They are asking the fans to turn out in force to give them the support and funds for the remaining home games. It's an interesting thing as in a situation like this I'd expect even the most fair weather of fans to turn out. Do you reckon Southampton will get sell out crowds now? I'd hope we would in the same situation, even though Withdean is much much smaller, we have nowhere near the same fanbase as Saints these days.
