First came “The Darkness” with their brand of “ironic” music. “Oh it’s ironic, it’s sending up the 80’s and Kiss and it’s so wittily done isn’t it?.” Well no it isn’t, Spinal Tap were funnier and they made better songs. “Working on a sex farm” vs “Thing called love”? That’s not even a contest, it’s as one sided as an Audley Harrison fight.
But now there’s another “ironic” music wave coming in, just as we’re battling with the first one.
Peter Andre.
Yep, I guarantee that he’ll be releasing his new songs by the start of March and pretty soon we’ll be bombarded by them on every god-forsaken commercial radio station and BBC Radio Top Ten. Look “Insania” was pretty funny at the time, I’m sure most people watching Celebrity had a laugh at him crooning those bollocks lyrics like he was reciting Yeats or Coleridge. His description (Insania, it’s a cross between Insanity and Mania. You won’t find it in the dictionary) was great.
Does this mean that we have to listen to the song over and over again? No!
What’s even worse is that this is going to get every crap DJ pulling out an old NOW compilation and playing “Mysterious Girl” again in an effort to be even more “ironic”. Every bar will have some goon blabbing over the mic “do you remember this one from the nineties? Yep it’s Peter Andre! Isn’t this just Insania?!” I’m sick of it already and it hasn’t even begun yet.
Peter Andre was rubbish and still is rubbish. Just because he figures in the formative years of us 20 somethings doesn’t mean we should have some sort of revival. What next? 2 Unlimited making a big comeback? Gary Barlow bringing out a new album? When will the madness stop?

It's a reflection on the disgraceful state that the music industry is in nowadays. There are a load of great bands out here nowadays due to the fantastic work by the smaller, independant record labels pushing their bands and radio stations like xfm are getting good music heard.

Just aviod local stations and radio 1 and it'll all be okay.

Hopefully Madness will never stop. Sadly I fear that THE madness of crappy money driven "music" won't either.
I will say one thing for Peter Andre, at least he's passionate about music. Most of todays pre-packed kiddie groups don't give a toss about music, it's just another way of becoming a "celeb". I remember reading an interview with one of the birds that used to be in steps and not ONCE during the interview was the actual song she was plugging mentioned. Not a word about what is what about, what inspired it, what it sounded like. Guess there was no need because it was just like every other ex-teenie band singers song. For her, music was just something that gave her a little sports car and nice haircuts.
As the recording industry goes into overdrive with sueing downloaders maybe, just maybe, they might stop and realise the reason why single sales are falling so much is because the standard has never been lower. I buy about 5 singles a week but they're 12" house singles from America and independant labels in Britain. I can't remember the last time I bought a single that was in the charts.

Why am I not surprised that that mong was involved somewhere along the line? A man who freely admits to not giving a toss about music, yet is in charge of one of the most listened to radio shows in the country. Him and "comedy" dave, about as funny as getting you finger caught in a door.

I physically cannot listen to Radio One and have not for at least six years. The last chart music I really enjoyed was "Britpop" poosibly bacause of returning to education, or simply that it was played with guitars. etc.

What I really fear is that the main music station for me has become Radio2, or when I had broadband, 6 music. Most of the rest play stuff that I just cannot get into. If I hear new music it is usually in record shops, or a mate has played it and I like it, then buy the CD.

This is comming from someone who is 35. Yes, the age when the real giants of music were, or are, at the top of the game. I simply cannot see where the next real major artist or band is comming from. From where I am sitting it certantly is not The Darkness, or BRMC. Both should have made it huge by now, but the music industry is dertermined to stiffle any original music, and only produce whimpy pre processed rubbish.

I leave this rant on one thought. Cathy Dennis is now one of the biggest music and lyric writers at present. How, when she was absolute rubbish when in the charts, and crusified Waterloo Sunset.
